     It doesn’t matter.

     I can’t push to Codeberg right now? So fucking what?

     You think I’m going to go running back to Github because you’ve temporarily inconvenienced me?

     You think I give a couple of hundred euros to Codeberg every year to demand perfect service?

     I support them by hosting my code there and by donating to them because I believe in what they do and because I want to see them succeed and to support alternatives to the likes of toxic trillion-dollar corporations like Microsoft.

     So go ahead, take them off the web for as long as you can. When you’re bored, or out of money, or whatever, I’ll still be there, on Codeberg, happily supporting a local and ethical alternative to your US/Silicon Valley/Big Tech bullshit.

     Don't be fooled if right-wing forces promise to "promote open source" in their political agenda. This has nothing to do with the values of our movement! This is about national patriotism and protectionism, and they will happily accept splitting our community on their way.

     We all know that the free/libre software ecosystem won't work this way. Every human is an integral and equally important part of it, and targetting some of our community members threatens the ecosystem as a whole.

     Let's together stay strong and united against the emerging threats. We stay strong against discrimination of all kind, including but not limited to sexism, transphobia, homophobia, racism, antisemitism and ableism. And we hope that you all join us for this mission.

     A big shout-out to all the projects that collect facts and resources against hate and discrimination and that have been the primary goal of these attacks. Support them if you can.

     If you ever considered supporting the fight against right-wing forces, for example by joining political movements and parties, organizing protests or getting involved in online communities with this goal - now might be the best time to move ahead.

     the main effect this has is making Codeberg unsuitable for corporations to use as their main repo.

     Small teams and individual developers? Not a problem, just like you said.

     But big corpos won't go near such an "unreliable" service.

     Which, is fine by me I guess? Let them stay on fucking Github or whatever platform will most efficiently steal their stuff and sell it back to them.

     @aral Codeberg do Forgejo, right? I actually just installed that as my own git repository. It's a bit isolated at the moment, but what I understand is that they are working on implementing ActivityPub to federate instances of Forgejo (what the codeberg site is). This feels like the way forward, as the attacks on one server would have very little impact, since users, projects, and even clones, would be spread around all over.

     So you know exactly what they don’t want you to do and thus exactly what you need to do.

     @aral I got one of those offensive messages. It was pretty pathetic, and now the losers are upset because they got banned so launched a DDoS, probably using a booter service. (At least that's my suspicion.) This really feels to me as complex as a Club Penguin op. No way is it making me second-guess codeberg. I'll be increasing my support of them.

     I know. I just think it's hugely inappropirate for a company to run their business based on the kindness of some nonprofit, and expect the same outcome of conglomerates like Microsoft Copilot+Github /s
     Also, hosting one's own code gives orgs better control of their own data, which is also a plus.
