We have found a solution together with @as9136 that will likely provide sufficient protection for IPv4 users, and we have a good idea how a long-term setup can look like (but it will take a while to get there). Thanks a lot for all the networking and support!

The switch is awaiting DNS propagation (pending for > 30 minutes already, and might take another hour for some users. And indeed, we are not happy with the service quality of #namesilo).

We are currently suffering from another network-level DDoS attack, connectivity via IPv4 is impacted.

If you are able to use IPv6 you should be able to have good connectivity to Codeberg.

We are currently working on a DDoS mitigation solution for the IPv4 route.

@meowski We faced attacks against human and trans rights projects in the past days, and have received email shitstorm, the spam wave and DDoS in response to standing up.

If the attacks weren't coming from the right and we blamed the right, wouldn't attackers eventually laugh about this? However, since we apparently called them out, we have seen revenge.

We are currently suffering from a network-level DDoS attack. Or maybe just a single actor. Anyway, our downlink is jammed.

Hey everyone, we apologize for the current unexpected downtime.

We have had a long-standing issue where certain data could not be stored properly. For example, Git allows users to have both a main and a MAIN branch (different casing), but Codeberg could not store it, because our database was case-insensitive.

We have been preparing and testing a fix (which is currently converting the database tables). However, we missed that certain operations would fail during the migration.

… To prevent any damage and inconsistencies because of failing queries, we have temporarily disabled access to Codeberg.org while the conversion is running.

We don't have a good estimate about how long this will take, but the largest tables are converted and we expect the operation to complete within some minutes.

An exciting evening ahead of us: We are performing maintenance on our #Ceph storage system and will distribute data across the machines for the first time.

Although we are not fully sure yet, there is a suspicious activity pattern from Russian IP addresses that currently brings Codeberg to a halt.

If confirmed, it is the first #IPv6 #DDoS attack in our history. Previously, we were only dealing with IPv4 so far.

Hi! We "upgraded" our primary @matrix chat, (#codeberg.org:matrix.org) to room version 10. Upgrades are a part of the Matrix protocol: They create a new room in the place of the old one, and send invites to everyone in the old room. If you were in the old room, you should have received an invite.

@iagondiscord The problem is that it's not targeting Codeberg. It's the #AIgoldrush. The web was completely crawled, just not by everyone yet. So startups start their #crawlers, carelessly and explicitly ignoring robots.txt to get the #biggestdata.

It does not matter if the web can no longer serve humanity due to this. Training the #AI is the only thing that matters.

Maybe a bit like a sacrifice for faith.
