cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 22:29:41 JST cool_boy_mew @NEETzsche I played it for a small while and it was boring as fuck. I can understand hating newer MMOs trying too damn hard with rolling content but RO had fucking NOTHING to do -

Amikke (amikke@qoto.org)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 22:39:55 JST Amikke @coolboymew @NEETzsche I once saw RO being presented as an example of great game design. In PokeMMO, by a guy assuring me that running on the same patch of grass for a month straight to roll a decent competitive pokemon is very fun and nerfing all other methods was a great design choice.

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 22:44:57 JST cool_boy_mew @Amikke @NEETzsche the state of pokemon I swear
Pokemon angers me to degrees I couldn't know possible. The game has all these deep mechanism, but nothing around to support them. The game could have some really freaking cool post game infinite dungeons with cool limits where you can train and get risk and rewards mechanism but no, you just sit there and battle/catch/hatch endlessly instead. The one JRPG with infinite party members possibilities and there's nothing to actually support it, so you mostly just end up hoarding 'mons for no reasons
Oh and competitive JRPGs is kind of a laugh honestly. All this grinding so you can press A harder than the next guy. Gimme good single player content to beat a la Stadium 1 and 2 instead. If I cared about all this shit I would skip the crap, save the money and time and go to smogon/showdown instead -
Amikke (amikke@qoto.org)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 23:00:40 JST Amikke @coolboymew @NEETzsche relatable, I love Pokemon from my childhood but the mechanics of acquiring good ones and the whole post game or rather lack of it just make me angry. PokeMMO over time managed to make it even worse than core games too, with patches like “so we noticed people are breeding too many good pokemon so starting today the chance of inheriting IVs scales with how good they are with a chance like 1/800 to inherit the max 31 and also when breeding the mother dies lol”.
And it’s such a shame because contrary to others Pokemon has great competitive potential, too bad that it’s inaccessible to people who don’t want to absolutely grind their life away, outside simulators where you can just will them into existence with max stats and lvl 100.
Nintendo being the copyright Hitler makes it even worse, with nobody willing to risk the lawsuits by creating a similar competing product.

cool_boy_mew (coolboymew@shitposter.club)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 23:01:47 JST cool_boy_mew @Amikke @NEETzsche pretty much, it's just pointless grinding in the end for what amounts to meta playing and ending up playing convoluted rock paper scissor at "high levels"
And that was ignoring the main game which has nothing special and has been completely steamrollable for a long while now -

>The one good thing about nu Pokemon games is raising and strengthening Pokemon is much easier than before though still grindy
The thing is, is it actually any better?
There's minigames for EVs (Or was it IVs?), no limits on move recaller instead of those dumb scales, switch 'mons everywhere etc...
It feels like a lot of the stuff are just bandaid solutions, making it less of a game and not actually finding new compelling solutions -

I think as of now the only things you can't change/fix about a mon is it's Pokeball and egg moves after it has hatched but IVs and now Natures can be changed thankfully.
This is at the cost of the games in general being more uninteresting and safe with nothing to do post game besides complete the dex.cool_boy_mew likes this. -

>Meanwhile I'm still grinding in deep rock
Deep Rock has gameplay tho', so that's a little different
>I played RO and I didn't like the gameplay, I installed walker program, and shortly after realized that I'm not even playing the game and then what's the point of all of it.
My friend played some MMOs that allowed this and had it as a built in mechanism and I never fucking understood the point. Same friends continued to play RO. In x10 EXP servers later on. Same dudes I played dungeon defender and then they got overleveled and wondered why I didn't want to play with them anymore and that power leveling was lame as fuck
>JRPGs tend to have interesting story that drives you forward through the grind (which sets up the pacing)
Yeah, pretty much, which is what I liked about 'em, but RO literally had fucking nothing -
Proud owner of a potato sack :flag: (hj@shigusegubu.club)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 23:14:08 JST Proud owner of a potato sack :flag: @coolboymew problem is that if people like certain kind of grind they don't see it as grind, and if they don't like certain aspect of gameplay repetition of it is seen as grind. Another issue is the amount of repetition, reward and visibility. If you see that you need approximately 4 more random encounter to get to a level where you can pass certain story threshold it feels doable and bearable, when you actually have to bring out a calculator or excel sheet to see that you need 50, and the reward is 80% just more grind people don't see much of a point, if they don't like gameplay all that much, if they do they usually don't care about grind.
I played RO and I didn't like the gameplay, I installed walker program, and shortly after realized that I'm not even playing the game and then what's the point of all of it.
Meanwhile I'm still grinding in deep rock, motor town and eurotruck - i often don't even care about reward and grind because i'm in for it for the gameplay.
JRPGs tend to have interesting story that drives you forward through the grind (which sets up the pacing), MMOs tend to have "numbers go up" and social aspect. I mean I mostly played WoW and XIV for story, while GW2 had pretty enjoyable gameplay.cool_boy_mew likes this. -

Ace Ice (ace66062@bae.st)'s status on Thursday, 06-Apr-2023 23:26:01 JST Ace Ice @Amikke @coolboymew @NEETzsche @Amikke I guess making grinding to train mons take days instead of weeks isn't much of a difference but I just thought I'd mention it.
>There's minigames for EVs (Or was it IVs?), no limits on move recaller instead of those dumb scales, switch 'mons everywhere etc...
The minigame was Super Training in X/Y for increasing EVs yes but you could already do that with power items but I don't remember which one was more efficient and the rest are just QoL changes so yeah they're not much of a game changer.
I was more talking about stats that used to be permanent that would require breeding all over again like IVs that can now be maxed through Hyper training from S/M onward and Natures which can be changed with mints from SWSH onward (wow something useful to come out of that garbage).
Anyway I don't know where I was going with this. You're right about these just being band-aid solutions and the base game still remains boring.

And I'm in the endgame at this point, with only the last bonus boss and final boss left to defeat. So even the toughest mooks in the final dungeon are just peanuts. But if you want to beat that bonus boss you pretty much have to be max level
