sad how people have to resort to saying buzzwords like nft and ai to make arguments against discord because people care so little about mass surveillance and freedom
@caekislove@meso it's simple. Music rights, streaming, music publishers also wanting their dollars, iTunes, etc. Michael Jackson bought a music publisher for this reason.
You need to remember that you will get shaken down by rights society and music publisher goons for not paying up just to play music in public (it's why Aldi and dollar tree lack music while others just stream it from a satellite). As a temp agency worker one assignment I turned down was to help rat out some bar for playing music without paying them. It's literally that bad even my old school had a thing up saying they paid up in the library.
@caekislove@meso it is and the music people are the worst at it or up there with it.
Also that's why people like Prince, Robert Fripp, the guy behind Supertramp, etc had no music on streaming sites for years. They went "dude where's my money". When Prince died his CDs went to #1 on tons of positions on Amazon because he notoriously did not sell mp3s and the only streaming service he used was one that promised actual compensation
