   At a certain point, I’m more disappointed with the frequency people try to explain this to me like I’m a 64 yo than I am the actual phenomenon. I know, you know, you don’t all have to keep pointing it out. Part of adapting today is allowing stuff like this turn from back-of-the-manual addendum into an innate part of your operating procedure.

   Cold approaches are generally fruitless, the few that you do should be preceded by enough interaction that you do so after being ‘waved in’ by her nonverbal language.

   Hearing this “yeah but rape accusations!” thing makes me worry about you all, it’s something to worry about when you’re young, insecure, inexperienced, and fearful. Careful target selection and a healthy bearing GREATLY reduces the risk of stuff like false accusations.

     I know it’s usually a new bunch of guys that bring this up, I just get a little concerned because it’s a fixation on a kind of ‘battle’ you shouldn’t pick in the first place. I could lay out a plan all day about flanking a machine gun nest and when I say we’ll take it out from the sides there’s always a guy in the back freaking out like my plan is to run headfirst into their fields of fire.

     “*so we’re supposed to just run straight into the machine gun nest? That’s what you’re saying? That’s GOTTA be what you meant when you said we’d have to attack, oh fuck, oh GEEZ we’re gonna have to bayonet charge a machinegun nest oh shit we’re all gonna die”

     Nah man, it’s okay, don’t worry, we’re going around the sides, they’re undefended there, it’s a lot safer, you’ll see-

     “shidd fugg I’m gonna have to sprint right into a hail of 5.8mm chinese MG fire huh“

     After a while you fear this stuff less as you gain expertise, experience, and confidence in dealing with women. Today, I’m still on my guard, but I know the girls I should distrust and be wary of, it’s not too complex.

     @Leaflord It’s natural, especially now that the fem-complex of single moms & teachers drill in paranoia and fear to such a pitch. You should be a little awkward in the beginning, I just don’t like guys staying awkward and acting like a 16 yo forever.

     Over time, you get better, grow out of it, gain the experience, and stop fixating on beginner mistakes. I see this a lot in flying, too, where new guys just focus on some small bugbear and endlessly fret about it instead of attaining proficiency and moving on to other items. Time & experience will provide the needed polish to someday hone mastery

     @hogankhan That’s like, the worst way to hunt for quality family building material though. Random happenstance is worthless now, you’ll find sex, but the kind of women worthy of marrying aren’t hanging out in the bar scene. The whole thing is so hypersexualized it’s like comparing modern Formula 1 to the early days when amateur teams could hang with some garage work.

     It’s all about sourcing them via community, pre-vetting through known quantities. That’s slightly easier, because your circle does the searching for you as you go about your life. The good girls are all retreating into their shells just like the boys are, they’re ‘dropping out’ in equal measure because enough of them are grossed out by the modern dating world. They just seem invisible to us because their online footprint is totally foreign. Locked-down insta for their friends to share craft projects and a pinterest board, small circle of friends she hasn’t kept in touch with after HS, lives w/ family and just wants to settle down - THAT is the girl you want to hunt for a solid shot at domestic bliss.

     And you won’t find her at the bars, not even dragged along like the old days. Then again, I don’t think quality women were really out there to begin with. Haven’t seen any marriages I’d want start that way.

     It wasn't that guys should just give up because of the distant possibility they could get a rape accusation. It is the fact that people nowadays are gross and unpleasant, the "common culture" is crap like niggerball and Ru Paul's Drag race, and any half-way decent girl you find is almost certainly already taken.
     
     Going "out on the town" or to the local park is probably not going to be a particularly enjoyable experience.
     
     So to just go out there and "try again bro" is like pulling teeth, its mostly going to be a chore, and when you get depressed and worn down, that's when it is easy to make a mistake. It's easy to say to just be careful and look out for the signs, but a guy who's exhausted and depressed by his fruitless efforts is going to miss them.
     
     The time and effort and risk to get even an *okay* girl is just too much for a fair number (not all) of guys and that won't change for a while.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot I like the analogy, and what you say is true, but the core difference is causing a lot of the issues you describe. In a war, the nest has to be taken, or something bad will happen imminently. In dating, the options presented to young men are "attempt to find a girl in an environment that everyone's saying is dangerous" and "just chill, no pressure, your life choices are your own, man, and you can always wait".
     
     Ultimately, it selects for three kinds of guys:
     
     > The guys with a fanatical religious, ideological, or instinctual drive towards carrying on the bloodline (usually middle-class, usually but not always right-leaning),
     
     > The guys who were born into a high-class milieu where the social fabric still functions (usually upper-class),
     
     > The guys who don't understand the situation they're in (usually lower-class)
     
     We're living through an absolute meatgrinder of a selection event.
