Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:56:30 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @Terry I read that budget but ICRI I made a poast on it. It is indeed true, more fantasy buying silliness but the raptors they’re retiring are supposedly early number ones with a lot of wear on them.
Just another thing that bugs me. We can’t make shit well the first time, but everyone will endlessly shit on stuff like the FA-57 because they’re having developmental problems too. All in the same boat here

Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum (rudolf_von_goldenbaum@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:57:16 JST Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Royper @Terry @CoQ_10 They cut F22 production because it was too expensive at the time, but in hindsight they would have been better off just building the full amount(400 or something)because nothing else is turning out to be any more cost effective. -

Terry (terry@bae.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:57:17 JST Terry @CoQ_10 so we're going to war with Iran with only F-15s lol -
Royper (royper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:57:17 JST Royper @Terry @CoQ_10 Keep in mind there are less than 180 F22s ever made and about a third of them will never be combat operational. On top of that the last F22 ever made was more than 10 years ago. -
CoQ_10 (coq_10@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:57:18 JST CoQ_10 @Terry Yes, except they'll say it's really being replaced with the F-35. Of course the F-35 cannot do what the F-22 does. And their 6th generation air dominance fighter will only appear in some undetermined decade. By their own admission it will cost hundreds of millions of dollars per plane. And the per copy price will increase after congress cuts the numbers produced (see B-2 and F-22). -
Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum (rudolf_von_goldenbaum@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:58:04 JST Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @RowdyRamzan Well they made a point to carefully store the tooling for the F22 when they stopped building it, but I think the idea of starting up the assembly line again turned out to be way too expensive or difficult or something. -

There’s no way they’d’ve done it successfully. It’s a gov job.
I think they tried seeing how much it would be to make them again. $20B just to build the line.

Paultron-3030 (paultron@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:58:24 JST Paultron-3030 @RowdyRamzan @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Royper @Terry @CoQ_10 the airframes are getting worn out, the production line got shut down ages ago, the engineers that ran the line were cold warrior boomers that have since retired, the logistics chain for the materials and parts is long since dry
at this building more F-22s doesn't represent a cost advantage over any other design. This new F-15's development was paid for p much entirely by Qataris and UAE iirc and has modern sensors and uses a known quantity, legacy airframe. not a bad option. It's no cutting edge air superiority fighter but it'll do -
Royper (royper@poa.st)'s status on Friday, 31-Mar-2023 05:58:24 JST Royper @Paultron @RowdyRamzan @Rudolf_von_Goldenbaum @Terry @CoQ_10 Remember that time an Air Force Base housing 55 F 22s among other aircraft suffered damage during a hurricane? And when the Air Force was asked why they didn’t fly the planes to another Air base before the storm they got all pissy saying you can’t just start an F 22 it’s a complex piece of machinery. it’s not like driving your Honda Civic to the store to get milk.
