It seems like every second article I read on the major news sites has the suicide hotline details at the bottom. I'm sure they'd claim they're trying to help but I can't help but think they're trying to out the idea in peoples' minds.

@martianvenator I think there's two parts to it. On one hand they're doing as you say and putting the idea in people's heads to associate all of this death and misery with mental illness rather than their actions.
On the other they want to look like they care so as to not be held accountable.
Like an employer giving you the companies therapist hotline after you didn't respond enthusiastically to being told you can no longer do the job you've been doing for years because you don't want emergency science juice.
