   @Jens_Rasmussen @smugumin @Goalkeeper @WandererUber @themilkman I enjoyed Incest Game, but I wouldn't say it glorifies any of the stuff that happens. The trajectory of the central characters are very clearly two people circling the drain before a horrible end, and while the situation they started in makes them out to be somewhat sympathetic, their choices and actions afterwards make it clear over time they're awful people. The brother could be a decent person if he wasn't so pathetically in orbit around the sister, but she's pure evil.

   I view it like a slow motion train wreck. It's awful, but slowly scrolling through how awful it is frame by frame is morbidly fascinating. Anybody who plays it and walks away with the idea "wow, incest, cannibalism, and blood sacrifice to demons is cool" was a midwit to begin with.

     @Jens_Rasmussen @smugumin @Goalkeeper @WandererUber @themilkman You have to have some sympathetic elements to the central characters, or else the audience can't form any connection with them. There might be some psychopaths who'd genuinely like that kind of thing, but I've seen stories before with main characters who had zero redeeming value, and it generally falls flat. The essence of a tragic story is a character who starts from an understandable position and makes bad choices, and comes to a bad end.

     If Coffin of Andy and Leyley ends with some upbeat ending about "they lived happily ever after" then I'll have to come back here and eat my words, but I don't think that's where they're going with it.

     Also, troons and censors big mad, so part of my enjoyment of it is admittedly anchored in spite.

     but it's less so to sympathize, moreso to help analyze, and explore the minds of those characters, their internal logic and reasoning.
     
     
     no person ever thinks what they think is truly evil, some mediums do it better, to have the media star a main character that is absolutely despicable from the main characters.
     
     the best stories can make you totally in-tune with the main character while reading, but later in retrospect make you consider the fucked up thing they have just done.

     @themilkman @Jens_Rasmussen @smugumin @Goalkeeper @WandererUber Arguably this tradition goes all the way back to classic literature. There are a lot of lukewarm takes about Milton's "Paradise Lost", that he was secretly a fan of the devil which is why he's portrayed so sympathetically in the early part of the story.

     It's only later when he reveals how much of a shitstain he is during the temptation of Eve that the reader gets the suckerpunch. The core message being "this is how he works, and you fell for it".
