     @skylar @Tadano its literally just BSD which is hipster linux with a flashy coat of paint lol. Hardest part for most people is remembering cmd = ctrl for all your keyboard shortcuts

     @Tadano @skylar you know most of that power gain is built into the OS right? You can install another flavor of *nix on it (daily reminder that macOS is BSD) but you're going to get troons trying to copy that power management and you're "only" going to get 8 or 9 hours of battery life out of it

     @skylar @sapphire I think the change to ARM is the best decision Apple's made in years and has made Macbooks very interesting again. If they get their heads out of their asses and make the things maintainable along with openly supporting Linux on Apple Silicon I would very much consider buying one for daily use. The power efficiency gains are that crazy IMO

     i demand x86, one of the nvidia quadro cards in there, some regular ass USB-A ports, a hardware ethernet port, and by allah my next laptop will have a serial port

     @sapphire I don’t like the sanctimonious attitude they have, while every 5 yo macbook owner complains they slow to a crawl. If you’re gonna be ruthless about soldering everything together into a non-upgradeable brick, don’t lecture me about environmental shit and ‘clean energy’.

     Apple’s got a bad habit of backing the wrong horse, too. They were ahead of the curve and went all-in on thunderbolt/displayport tech only for everyone else to ignore it. Similar to lightning, they were ahead of the curve there only to see everyone else go to a better version of it.

     I probably like them the most out of everything though, I’ve spent the least amount of time screwing with mac to get them working…not something I can say for Linux and windows. Froim the sound of it their new stuff is getting pretty good, too, if a bit pricy for what you end up with

     @sapphire @rein Seen a lot of lightning tabs snap off, haven’t seen the same on type C. I suspect the way they have to install those chips in the tip pre-scores it to make it more prone to damage. The receptacle part is nice though, definitely lasts, seems pretty robust .

     If you mean the lightning connector, there was no alternative for them then, given USB-C wasn't ready, and they also had no intention of allowing others to use it. So there was no way it could've gone differently.

     @rein @WashedOutGundamPilot honestly I still think from a purely design standpoint lightning is much better than USB-C, especially considering how many port manufacturers cheap out on their USB-C ports. That thin tab is really flimsy if you cheap out and make it out of plastic
