Wonder if that’s a coincidence or if there’s some sort of crackdown starting.
To quote some schizo LARPer I knew on Twitter eons ago, the FBI would ham shit up and go after low hanging fruit to sound bigger. No really. To paraphrase him, the formula the FBI uses is to:
Do something extremely unimpressive like say go after low hanging fruit who bought malware on hackforums with a paypal linked to a real name, or a “Neo-Nazi” who had pot on the same property as a gun, or people who used real names on social media, etc.
Write a nice fluffed up press release about how you did a lot of work that on further inspection falls apart like those UK weapon sweeps that take butter knives off the street.
With the media, exploit the fuck out of this and make anyone paranoid as fuck.
There’s lately been a push as well to throw people in jail or pass hate speech laws, from the “Day of Hate” that never happened to hunting down J6 protesters years after the fact.
It’s also a lot harder to find mass shooters these days. Aside from every single person making jokes or schizoposting about how the shooter was a fed grooming victim (if he was right wing or white), all the shooters are either black or get forgotten about quickly. Like, nobody even gives a shit if a shooting in a public place happens it’s like reading about some IED going off in Iraq killing some US soldiers or civilians was in the 00s.
What they can find are plenty of autists blowing off steam online who can’t go 5 minutes without getting themselves in trouble, who won’t shut the fuck up when the cops come because they have zero social skills and think that like in the TV shows their boomer TV addicted dad watches if they talk enough they’ll get off. They can bust some retarded autist and all the NPCs will clap like seals.
> Well scrappers and whatnot have been happening for years.
Yep; I've been dealing with them a lot.
> And the fediverse is much bigger than most forums, so of course there is feds and other kinds of cops watching it
Well, like I said before, and basically confirmed when corresponding with the fed, I think most of them don't understand even a really simple decentralized system like fedi. This fed in particular was just using an internal tool that hooked into the SocialGist/BoardReader API, he never even clicked the link to look at FSE.
> I don't think most admins have any idea of how to deal with cops or even know what lawyers to reach to.
Luckily, I know a lot of lawyers and I have a couple of pretty good ones to call if something gets weird. I recommend that people either get some business cards or go have drinks near a courthouse.
@p@PhenomX6 Well scrappers and whatnot have been happening for years. And the fediverse is much bigger than most forums, so of course there is feds and other kinds of cops watching it, annoying part is more that I don't think most admins have any idea of how to deal with cops or even know what lawyers to reach to.
I think the bigger issue is going to be explaining the fediverse to lawyers, moreso ones who are not tech savvy or whose technology expertise begins and ends with CSI Cyber reruns.
I think the big issue isn't the tech per se, I think it's that feds and ADAs will present your post out of context, and use terms like "extremist" in relation to the fediverse generally to make a shitpost look like you're a member of a neo-nazi militia that threatens public safety and the sovereignty of the United States. And no judge or jury will understand shitposting and will read the post in the worst possible way.
> And no judge or jury will understand shitposting and will read the post in the worst possible way.
I wish all the people saying "post the n-word or you're GUILTY OF SECRET JUDAISMS and YOU ARE A FED" would would understand that kind of thing. Feds absolutely will say whatever because they are feds and they don't have to care; people worried about the feds are the ones that have to be careful. feds_fedposting.png
> I think the bigger issue is going to be explaining the fediverse to lawyers, moreso ones who are not tech savvy or whose technology expertise begins and ends with CSI Cyber reruns.
No.
No, no.
No.
That will not ever come up. There is a 0% chance that anything you are doing is going to hinge on your ability to explain fedi to your attorney. Ignore that at your own peril: the tech stops mattering really quickly.
This is why you want to get to know some good lawyers.
The fediverse doesn't matter to lawyers (except @Humpleupagus ), the tech doesn't matter 99% of the time. If your lawyer doesn't get it, half the time the judge won't get it and 100% of the time the jury won't get it. Your lawyer is likely to be smart, is likely to understand the law, and is practically guaranteed to understand the practical realities of the courtroom better than you. Your lawyer may or may not understand the tech, but your lawyer will understand which stuff doesn't matter.
So you need to just forget anything you are thinking about how understanding the tech is going to be relevant and to conduct yourself in such a way as to account for that kind of thing. (This is why there's no loli on FSE.)
The thing with fedposting is it's infamously risky. It's not about being linked to a shooting, it's about sending a message and throwing criminal charges at some retard who openly said this.
@Humpleupagus@PhenomX6@p For example, the basement dweller could be considered innocent, whatever he said, if it was impossible for him to be linked to the shooting. At least that seems to be how justice tells the difference between a musician joking about something and a musician actually telling about his deed (some musicians being basically professional shitposters).
In this case too, there's been a political context going around.
Florida is trying to push for hate speech laws and while they haven't passed yet to my knowledge, they've scared people shitless on Poast and the like because now something like flyering a neighborhood with something a judge doesn't like is a felony now.
Recently this autist on /pol/ decided to make a post about how he wanted to kill this sheriff who was complaining about GDL flyers. For context, the GDL (Goyim Defense League) has become notorious for both flyering (throwing flyers out of a car or leaving them on car windows in public parking lots) neighborhoods but also filming their Frank Hassle/IRL streamer copycat antics of yelling at people. The GDL has made waves in pissing off the ADL/SPLC/journalists to the point that they absolutely want them shut down now, while also feeding them any attention thanks to their stunts and it's pretty clear that the ADL wants the people responsible in jail.
So of course this out of control dude on 4chan angry about it again fedposted, letting his inner rage out, and this was the end result: some good old criminal charges and a patting yourself on the back news story for the FBI agent.
@PhenomX6@Humpleupagus@p Yeah, it's a bit ridiculous, but at the same time, humor works on undefined behavior, you often cannot prove that it was a joke.
And I think I'd rather gloriously insult a cop rather than fedpost.
That's the thing a lot of Poast users and the like don't get; it's far more legal to make memes about him or jokes or photoshops about him than it is to say you want to kill someone who isn't just a cop and knows how to use the law against you, but also wants to make an example out of someone.
@lanodan@Humpleupagus@PhenomX6@p Won't help. Judges like journos are 100% required to take everything you say 100% seriously. It is why people pepper in things like "lol jk" or "in minecraft", but even then expecting them to act impartial just won't happen.
The concepts of hyperbole, irony and sarcasm doesn't exist in a courtroom, this has been proven repeatedly. If any of you ever shoot some drugged out nigger raping and stabbing your mother, then your posting history gets connected to you every time you said TND is going to be an additional life sentence.
Related, they literally have charged kids with making threats for saying they're going to shoot up some non existent school online or how they're going to pop all their classmates out of rage.
They have to take it seriously because for every zoomer being unfunny there's a real chance they could also be serious, and with how many people were posting obvious shit beforehand that went unnoticed except in a corner of the web (Elliot Rodger, Randy Stair, etc.) they have to take it seriously.
> And I think I'd rather gloriously insult a cop rather than fedpost.
Ha, I was saying to someone earlier, "I'm going to do it in the traditional way, by getting completely drunk, stripping naked, and fighting six cops." 2-11_puke_on_cops.mp3
There is a high chance that the parents will disown their kid in this case for being a “retarded son”.
Because of his status and the fact the only people who give a shit about him are of similar status, he probably has no chance of getting anything more than a shit-tier public defender who takes his/her job as seriously as a McDonald’s burger flipper with one hand on his phone and another slowly maybe making your order.
And a lot of it will turn on the personality / social status of the accused, because these are cases where he'd likely have to take the stand to argue it was a joke or satire, because the accused is likely the only witness as to intent. If he's an unemployed, introverted, basement dweller with an antisocial personality, it's not going to go well, even if the post wasn't serious.
@Humpleupagus@PhenomX6@p Yeah, basement dwelling isn't a great status, even less if you're not even social online outside of anon platform like 4chan (chatlogs and emails can help, in fact emails are a pretty nice way of having messages timestamped and untampered by a disinterested third-party).
Forest for the trees, man. That's what I keep saying.
> So of course this out of control dude on 4chan angry about it again fedposted
And of all the fedposts on the internet, they decide this one. The one that federated to FSE was similar, not related to Chitwood. They'd been sitting on it for four weeks: were they slow and it was a coincidence that it goes down the same day? Did anyone else get an email, phone call, whatever? Is this going to get more common?
@PhenomX6@Humpleupagus@p@lanodan the only reason CIA killing JFK mattered is because they had an institution in place to replace him. If some random whacks Biden it would not matter in terms of stopping the greater regime's agenda.
@PhenomX6@Humpleupagus@p@lanodan Meh. Seems kinda virtue signaly. Some random politician molesting kids is still not a weak point for overall zog. They have a million of those guys, they're a dime a dozen.
Don't rely on normie reactions to gauge what's good praxis or not, those people are idiots. Also did you really just link breitbart unironically? Lol.
@PhenomX6@Humpleupagus@p@lanodan and you think canceling him is gonna kill the whole thing? Suppose you got your wish and gets whacked - then what? They magically back off out of fear? That won't happen. They'll just double down.
@PhenomX6@Humpleupagus@p@lanodan Like if somebody wacks a groomer politician I'm not going to counter signal them, their heart's in the right place.
But this is kind of the problem with fedposting in general is people never pick smart targets like a military operation, they are emotionally driven and operate based on virtue signals disconnected from the real goal. A lot of this is like they just want to show how strong their ego is, not actually score a win for the whole team.
@PhenomX6@Humpleupagus@lanodan@p So many of the fedposts are basically threatening to be suicide bombers. You know? If a guy wacks a politicians, he's not going to get away with it. They're going to catch him. So he can never really fulfill the role of Batman being this force that's always out there lurking. That's what you need a greater organization for.
@Senator_Armstrong@Humpleupagus@p@lanodan I'm sure most of them are suicidal too or don't intend on getting a high body count as opposed to being the guy in the history books who say whacked abe or in that guys case doing it because his mom fell into a cult he supported to some extent.
