The Hebrew and Greek words for "tattoo" is unique, קַֽעֲקַ֔ע (qaaqa) and στικτὰ (stikta) which is a form of στίγμα (stigma), which means mark or brand.
Don't let anyone tell you that those words merely mean cut-in religious lettering or spells and not any kind of tattooing. The Hebrews were around the Egyptians, who were known to frequently tattoo others during the time of the Exodus and not always for religious purposes.

>Tattooing is body modification
For Christians, the body is the temple of God (1 Cor. 6:19) and vandalizing the temple through modification that is beyond medical and some cosmetic is a grievous sin. You don't own your body.
For sinners, piling sin on themselves, including the sin of auto-desecration, will make judgement worse. Immoral body modification is also a ritual of idolatry, either worship of false gods or worship of the self.
The only possible exceptions I can see is civic tattooing a la the SS needing to quickly identify labor camp and transit camp inmates, and desperate preservation of the Gospel, like what that one Palestinian tattooing family (Razzouk Tattoos) did during the Arab-Islamic and Ottoman conquests and tyranny. Even the latter is iffy.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

Very little in the world is worthy of being permanently, and so shoddily carved in the human form, and any familiarity with the results should gross out a thinking person for good.
Maybe I get tired of the debate advancing onwards to "what's body modification anyways?" because the hardliners will then consider any affecting substance for a non-essential purpose some kind of tarnation towards the corporeal temple.
But to me the tat issue has always been like hearing people ask why butt chugging hasn't caught on.
