@SerfnUSA I beat Engage yesterday, and Ivy was the MVP of all the last 5 maps. She had ridiculously good bulk for a magic nuke, making her a perfect unit to rewarp into enemy territory, and Smash weapon users attacking her and getting killed before it ever became their turn to strike was hilarious. Hell, I even beat Marni that way on the flooded desert map (I thought I had screwed myself by not noticing that Marni's wind axe was super effective against Ivy, but it turned out to be a God-tier bait, because the axe's negative priority ensured Marni would never be able to land a single blow).
Also, probably my favorite design of all the Engage girls, even before I was really excited for the game her and Chloe really caught my eyes.

@SerfnUSA @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen I cut games with magic a lot of slack on Strong Women, because there's still room for the likes of superhuman bloodlines and magic affinity to explain powerful women warriors.
What TS does differently is the Noble characters actually speaking way more like Nobles than Redditors, they weigh their words carefully, they place great emphasis on being polite and courteous, on representing the family and realm well etc. There's a lot more "weight" to the characters and conversation in that sense, and the language feels a lot more old-fashioned.
By contrast, something like Dimitri's mini-debate with Edelgard at the end of Blue Lions is fine for the most part in terms of substance, but they speak like modern people, and Edelgard definitely thinks like one too.

@ChristiJunior @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA to be fair arent most female main characters in TS good in fields that are everything but physical?
Mages, healers, archers and the like
And as for females not being aknowledged as women you can thank that to the english dialogue
Also fun thing there are no generic female soldiers in the jp dialogues :sip2:

@Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA Modern Fire Emblem is full of anachronisms, if you want a Strategy RPG that has a somewhat more consistent Middle Age feel I recommend Triangle Strategy.
-
@ChristiJunior @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen Huh, I found triangle strategy to be exactly the same as current fire emblem in terms of bizarre medieval sexual egalitarianism with women generals, bodyguards, knights, bandits, and every other sort of leadership and/or physical combat related roles in society.
-
@ChristiJunior @Rasterman @SerfnUSA Shame about the localization, I guess.
Or is it not that bad?
-
@Jens_Rasmussen @Rasterman @SerfnUSA Fire Emblem localization is always bad, lol, it's par for the course. I doubt Engage is any worse than the other post-Fates FE games, and in terms of fanservice it's actually still way better than Three Houses and its crushingly disappointing sauna mode - you can actually dress all the female characters up in bathing suits in your base, even the Loli.
-
@ChristiJunior @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA >sauna mode
WTF :melgibson_wtf: Isn't this a tactics RPG-esque game? What's this about saunas, bathing suits, lolis and fan service? Isn't it the middle ages except there's wizards like Robin from Smash Bros? WHAT'S HAPPENING :akko_aaa:

@ChristiJunior @SerfnUSA Is FE Engage a Fire Emblem like the others or is it more like a mobile gacha game on Switch? The main characters I saw on the Direct convinced me that it was a game I wanted to skip, but I'm open to arguments in favour of the SJW protagonists.
-
@Rasterman @SerfnUSA In many ways it's actually more like the somewhat older Fire Emblem games, though I haven't actually played any of the pre-GBA ones. Engage reminded me quite a bit of Awakening on the 3DS and Sacred Stones on the GBA in terms of story, while mechanically it combines a lot of different elements.
It's actually not gacha at all (well, there's one type of stat-boosting rings that you can gacha roll for, but they're extremely weak compared to the Emblem rings you get in the actual story), but a very legit mainline Fire Emblem strategy RPG. What it does have in common with Fire Emblem Heroes, the mobile game, is that there is a TON of fanservice and nostalgia pandering, but it actually works for the game with how cleverly the Emblem rings (the ones summon old Fire Emblem heroes) has been integrated, it's a seemingly Overpowered mechanic that has actually been successfully balanced, while still giving you tons of powerful and original options in combat.

@natsock @ChristiJunior @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA sadly i don't think @Ene has checked STO but i'd say expect nothing better than TS
-
@ChristiJunior @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA yeah ill give avlora a pass because i think shes the only one and also because i think the writters wrote her that way because they needed a big sister figure for that other blonde princess whose name i forgot

@rlier23
Saturn Tactics Ogre got a translation, I wonder how faithful it is.
@ChristiJunior @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA
-
@rlier23 @Rasterman @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA I mean, my female units certainly weren't the about raw physical power, but then you have someone like Avlora basically being the world's strongest warrior.
But as mentioned earlier, for all we know she belongs to a Godlike bloodline and her father was even stronger :shrug:
-
@rlier23 @natsock I played psp tactics ogre years ago before I knew Japanese, I don't think I'll play it again.
-
@Rasterman
PSP version is apparently butchered, Saturn is the one to play (as someone else told me).

@natsock @rlier23 @ChristiJunior @Jens_Rasmussen @SerfnUSA The other day I downloaded a game called Tactics Ogre (and a subtitle) on my PSP. A friend told me it's a good game, but who knows when I'll get to it. I wonder if it's the same or a sequel ... :blobthinkingglare:
