This is just for a SERVICE, if something's busted (which is often the only time non-rich guys send it in) you get ass blasted with all the extra parts fees. Although I think Omega at least sends you the take-offs....

Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:15:28 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks I saw a guy's old SMP300 from the early 00s and it really tickled me, it reminded me of the one I used to gush over at the store growing up. I don't like the newer ones, laser-cut is gay, I want the old lacquered, ripple dials.
Then I start looking and lose my boner for it. $1700 for a QUARTZ SMP from the 90's? That was the bond wave, those should be cheap as hell, they made so many. I could toss $8,000 down the toilet for the pure TI NTTD, it's beautiful, gorgeous....but the bond connotations are gay. Unfortunate it took an actor to come up with that very plain and obvious recipe

Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:19:39 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @HWABAG I've had 2....or 3? Destroyed one at the range once by accident, but they were okay. I think they're a little more than they need to be today given the movements they use. But everyone has tacked on $150 to the MSRP once they get forum-popular
I still got one of their fieldies. I just eschew all the tactical cunt slop. I hate the nerdy SPY WATCH CHEGGIT OUT I GOT A SANGIN JUST LIKE THE CIA thing. Maybe that canuck MSAR would be cool, but it's just soiled by association from all the guys I've met with them IRL

Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:21:49 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks See I wanted one of these so bad as a kid, chrono+dive bezel was so kickass to me....but I couldn't dream of scraping together $5,000 for one. THese days I see them at the same price and get gun shy, I can't imagine trusting that I'd find a real one, there's so many well-done faux vintage fakes. Not to mention a real one would need service, from years of stagnation/mishandling. So tack on another $1,100.
Money should be spent on something better than that. I thought I had this temptation kicked, man. I was content to buy cheaper slop for a while!

Fumos are very cute, but they're too mainstream now. In 10y they'll be seen akin to beanie babies, as the anime fandom ages into hypercringedom
Sorry, I don't like breaking the news but we have to be honest about it!

NotImportant (notimportant@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:28:00 JST NotImportant @WashedOutGundamPilot I honestly can't find myself actually wanting stuff. I can't collect things and anything expensive just feels like a waste on something I'm not really going to use. -
Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:28:00 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @NotImportant See the fun is getting something lovely and then ACTUALLY using the heck out of it, knowing you'll one day pass on the passion for it to your kids & grandkids.
It helps keep you on the path when you're vested in holy artifacts of your ancestors. It used to itch at me when I was doing bad stuff while wearing family watches, jackets, etc. I want to have cool things to hand down, show the kids they're loved even when I'm not around. I know one guy who just throws his expensive pieces to anyone in the family who wants them, because he likes how it makes them happy. One of his Gkids took an IWC to school, and loved it without knowing the cost. When he came to give it back the old guy (good boomer) gave it a look over to see he'd been taking care of it and said "well it's yours, let me wear it a few years more and I'll give it to you at graduation"
IDK if the kid knew it was probably an $11,000 piece

Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:33:11 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks There's no way this thing was titanium in the 90s, right? Seems crazy. But that hits the spot, enough of that wave, enough complexity in the dial to tickle the trinket lust, mostly-aligned bezel. I bet it would look amazing on my $8 amazon zulu
All that being said I find it very hard to want to blow the money on this, I was excited to shop but now it just leaves a bad taste in the mouth.....I probably ought to stash the money for doctor's appointments more than nigger baubles

Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks (washedoutgundampilot@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 07:59:15 JST Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks @HWABAG Yeah, I've poasted about them here before, combing through the listings. I'd rather have a chink fake than a real rolex, but when it's something like a seamaster, I don't think it's got the legs to last. I tried replacing my old SMP's movement with a chink ETA 7750 clone and it only added a few years of life...I just don't think the chinks are building them to last a good 80 years
That's partly why I'm attracted to these old ones, too. Lower chance it's a totaly high-dollar ripoff, because nobody's putting in the work of setting up production for a POS from 1998.
I have been eyeing the anniversary edition skyhawk the japs put out. It's a solid color combo, and I'm a sucker for fidget watches like that, even if it's a little cheesy

Then when I was squeezing it out of curiosity I cracked the glass
For seventy bucks or whatever it was fun.....but it didn't quench my thirst. I got a freebie invicta pro diver from someone who tried it out and couldn't stomach it. Similar, but doesn't hit the spot, I've gotten too spoiled!

marlin (marlin@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 14-Sep-2024 12:20:23 JST marlin @WashedOutGundamPilot @HWABAG It lasts 80 years only if you service it every 10 years. For a $5500 Seamaster to go 80 years it needs $5600 of service. If you're aesthetics shopping then get a Seamaster homage from Pagani Design or w/e with a Seiko movement.

Ame (americanchampion@poa.st)'s status on Sunday, 15-Sep-2024 07:15:21 JST Ame @WashedOutGundamPilot @MK2boogaloo I maintain that anime is a medium rather than a trend, like movies, or books, or video games. It's just any animation made in Japan. It's been pretty steady over the years, with a relatively stable mixture of tween weeaboos, imageboard people, and nerds of various stripes.
Only real way to kill it is total capture of the entire production chain, including the really niche stuff, which I don't think can happen. Even if it does, the old stuff is so universally respected that no amount of new garbage could completely ruin its reputation (everybody likes Spirited Away).New Janny in Town likes this.
