     Really grates on me how boomes (and gen X, they’re essentially the same in many parts of the country) blame us for being latchkey kids.

     The parents refused to let kids wander around because they watched TV and freaked out over Dateline Specials about how any unattended child would be kidnapped and raped. Now, 20 years after the fact, they’re yelling at us like we should have lectured them on their overreaction and biked across town to shoot potatoes at school buildings w/ PVC tubes and hairspray

Now everyone’s focused on later stuff as an investment. Gonna be interesting if prices on 60’s camaros end up dumping below jap compacts in 30 years

     Modernist minimalism got popular because the entire generation coming back from WWI was permanently traumatised by the human meat grinder experience never seen before in history. That generation came home and neglected their sons, who then went and fought in the next big war, and then they came home and wasn't able to emotionally connect to their kids either. The boomers are the product of two generations of traumatised, absent fathers, which is why they act like spoiled rich kids with no maturity.

     The fact that he didn't specify which engine it had confirms he was a poser. Shackles and mags were cheap, and the car would've been slower after that. Slower you say? Yep, they didn't go around corners so good, LOL.
     
     And listening to Boston? Their album debuted in 1976. The big engine for the Nova put out ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY FIVE horsepower back then. From everything I've read (unless you were buying old musclecars) being a car guy during the smog-era absolutely sucked.

     @1967GTO Every time someone let me try out his ‘bitchin’ old 60’s car without modernized equipment I came away laughing. Even the “sporty” ones handle like a boat, you can only do so much w/ leaf springs after all (same suspension tech on a horse carriage, btw) and without sound isolation it’s a tinnitus machine.

     Basically, if you don’t have the memories of lusting after a car at 16, it’s forever underwhelming to you. Kids now would probably get in a Type R and laugh at the wimpy thrust and barebones interior, while I can’t get enough of them

     @Paultron @1967GTO I liked the 04 GTO, but there’s something I really prefer about underpowered cars for street use. Much easier to enjoy when 60 comes in 6 seconds instead of 2. Ever since they started allowing ‘felonious speeding’ it’s just not worth the risk knowing 60% of my car’s performance is locked behind a felony

     @troubledturtle @WashedOutGundamPilot I can't even count how many times I've seen over the top wheels distract from the car. Even just the rim to tire ratio can have a negative aesthetic - a 13" rim with a tall tire or big rim with a non-existent sidewall. And the wrong offsets. Ugh.

     @troubledturtle @1967GTO I love these but they’re too damn expensive, and they’re a little too tin-canny to wanna drive all the time. Live with them for a while and it gets old, wider greenhouse puts you on display to everyone around you, huge worry about theft since they’re more valuable (like $30k used, up to $60k nice) and they’re just loud on the interstate once you go up to newer stuff w/ better isolation.

     In an all white country I’d happily drive one, but I still prefer the RSX for the under-the-radar appeal, K-series motor, and increased privacy

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @troubledturtle High school. I've always wanted to chart musclecar prices, and see if they tracked with what was popular at 18 years old. There would've been some outliers, but the really old guys loved their 50s Corvettes far more than they should have.

     @1967GTO @troubledturtle I think we’ll see them drop from their insane 1/4M pricing once boomers die off. Still kind of expensive, but not completely insane. Imports will increase, then drop off in similar fashion once X and mills are gone

     A lot of them are starting to come to terms with this. Kids who weren't immersed in car culture aren't impressed by what is clearly a step backwards.
     
     I'd like to find an older PC (like a Pentium286) but it better be cheap. When it comes to novelty, "collectible" is rarely worth the price of admission.
