@mikerotch @JoshuaSlocum @EvilSandmich @judgedread You can tell the NY apartment living urbanite has no idea how big an acre is. If you think a family could maintain 160 acres even a family of 12 you are fucking retarded.
-
@JoshuaSlocum @philmchawk @judgedread I'd heard three acres, which is probably if someone wanted to eat something other than potatoes. Doesn't matter really, no one is cultivating anything north of a half acre without some industrial mechanical help (and even a half acre is a 'push').
-
@EvilSandmich @philmchawk @judgedread Yeah, three is more realistic, as any serious agriculture requires rotation, space for water capture and retention, etc.
It's why these numpties annoy me so much. I'd be more inclined to listen to their googled ideas if they had nine kids to help out around the fantasy farm, but they don't.
-
@JoshuaSlocum @EvilSandmich @philmchawk @judgedread There's a reason the Homestead Act handed out land in 160 acre increments: that's about how much it takes feed a family and have a bit of profit left over using the technology that was available at the time.
-
@judgedread and stop pretending like we are voting for anything other than 2% inflation with war with Iran vs 6% inflation and war with Ukraine.
-
@philmchawk @judgedread victory gardens were meant to be supplemental, not sufficient
the actual numbers for full self-sufficiency are all over the place, but 1-2 acres per person is probably the realistic rock bottom
call it 10 acres for a family of five
collapse means your water source is sketch
also means no electricity, which means no heat
(wood stove? okay, quadruple your acreage req's, and those had better be full of good hardwoods)
before getting too sure of yourself i recommend going out into the woods with nothing but an axe and the clothes on your back and see if you can make it a week
(no you can't do this in spring: dead of winter or high summer only)
-
@philmchawk When was the last time you went hungry involuntarily?
-
@judgedread Don't pretend like you're worried about Biden doing a holodomor you area worried about your stock market. I'm White and can grow my own food we don't involuntarily go hungry unless there is a commissar making sure that doesn't happen, that isn't in the cards for the powers.
-
@philmchawk You're a delusional moron if you think you can produce 2500-3000 calories worth of food a day.
-
@judgedread A horrible death is infinitely better than a horrible life. The worst possible thing you can possibly imagine happening to you, involve your life being prolonged and suicide not an option. Most of us would much rather things get worse then things get better in non-racial aspects.
