AWIVR (awivr@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 11-May-2024 06:40:36 JST AWIVR @Eiregoat @eee @WashedOutGundamPilot it looks like they were trying to cycle the prop out of ground fine and the hydraulic piston locked up and yote the propeller off the shaft, that's a new one for me Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

We hardly ever waste our time answering emails for people south of the US looking to toss us aircraft for consignment. Even when they're "taken care of" there's all kinds of slop, bullshit, forgery, falsification, and nonsense to deal with. These poor aircraft go down there for a nightmarish 50-year retirement, beaten into the ground like they're a 1990 corolla

AWIVR (awivr@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 11-May-2024 06:43:08 JST AWIVR @Eiregoat @WashedOutGundamPilot @eee I believe this is a Hamilton prop but they all work the same, the mechanism operates using pressurized engine oil which is injected through the center of the propeller shaft and into that round bulb at the center. the oil presses on a piston which changes the pitch of the blades which allows the engine to operate at a constant rpm
if that prop pitch mechanism is seized up that oil pressure will build up and apparently push the entire prop assembly off the spline. -

He's absolutely perfect for it, anal retentive control freak. I admire him so much but I could never do what he does.
He'll happily crawl all over a wing for hours just looking for tiny dents.Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -

More than a few times I've been builted into playing mechanic's assistant out on the tarmac hoping to finally leave, and every time I watch them plod along as slow as possible
Some of those prop hubs are a nightmare, the bolts are captured and shielded so you have to back out a dozen bolts, with 8 inches of thread....using a crecent wrench with 20º of movement

Probably not worth the liability in the end, working on shitheaps isn't great for your claims history
