   @smokescreen It's not just about that. if the US can no longer act as Israel's bodyguard Israel will be destroyed and the fate of its jew population will be decided by the new caliphate. Many will be executed for their crimes and the rest offered the choice of conversion or dhimmitude.

     More to do with Israel's longer term goal to expand deeper into the middle east further, they won't stop a gaza. In order to do this they not only need the 800 lbs gorilla to blindly back them. But become the dumping ground which israeli's decided are too violent to be their neighbors, but perfectly fine for the goyim.

     @DrBtc They need US troops to kick Iran's ass the way we kicked Iraq's ass in 2003, which was supposed to be the start of knocking out all their enemies in the region.
     
     It didn't work out, but neocons won't give up the dream. Also they know that these things go both ways. The US collapses and Israel will be invaded by Arabs and turned into a Muslim state.

     @judgedread @smokescreen My suspicion is that the Orthodox Jews don't care if Israel is there or not and that since they never raised a weapon against the Arabs that they could work a deal anyway (and in fact wouldn't mind if those troublesome Euro-Jews got packed up and sent into the ocean). That's a huge slice of their population thinking that, if that's the case.

     @EvilSandmich The fact that the chabads aligned with Trump makes me suspect they are excluded from the top steering committee.
