@whitequark @foone although steel cores are, uh, also frowned on in indoor ranges due to more… acute safety risks than airborne lead poisoning
(namely, sparking. there’s unburned powder everywhere in your average indoor range that’s been in operation for a while, and sparks from steel core ammo can ignite that, which would be Bad™. (see USCSB videos on combustible dust, with the addition that this dust is designed to combust.) additionally, steel cores can damage the backstop, which has the potential to be Bad™. AFAIK, zinc is the usual choice for lead-free ammo marketed for indoor range usage. (copper is also good, but is expensive.))
