USPS being authorized in the USA Constitution does not mean it's required despite John's assertions.

@aj @Johncdvorak now do the militia part a few lines down and get back to me when they're reestablished. The militia is not synonymous with the army, navy or national guard.

@aj @Johncdvorak not to get too pedantic, but it's the internet, the USPS is not mandated, but post offices and roads seemingly are. See the Cato article that suggests it can be better privatized. Ron Paul had mentioned this in the past with allowing for competition with first class mail: https://www.cato.org/blog/us-postal-service-constitution

But good discussion, I learned more than I ever wanted to about mail and the fact the post office and roads are in fact mandated.

@Johncdvorak @aj remove the prohibition of competition with first class mail; that is not in the constitution as it's a law written after the fact. Competition can fill the need while still being constitutional.

I'd argue your point is similar to demanding a state-ran grocery store. How are people supposed to get food without the state?
