current objective: "getting to metal" with MNT Reform Next. that means getting as many internal details right as quickly as possible so we can have a first aluminum chassis made. but now, the weekend

the desktop, icons, UI elements etc are all neatly designed and the whole thing has a very friendly vibe somehow

fun, rk3588 is fast enough to run x86_64 haiku os in qemu

the number of PCBs in MNT Reform Next is steadily increasing:

@esther the fix (for wifi on imx8mplus) should have hit the repo by now, so upgrading the `reform-tools` apt package should fix it. we also now have a mitigation deployed for the gtk3/waybar issue reported earlier.

@esther you can try: `sudo insmod -f "/opt/reform-qcacld2/qcacld2-$(dpkg-query --show --showformat '${Version}' "linux-image-$(uname -r)").ko"` (or just try insmod -f with the latest .ko version that is in that directory)

@esther the main reason is that the kernels in debian stable are too old to support the hardware that we ship, i.e. the ARM SoCs are not supported in the stable kernels. i think we could migrate to testing at some point, and also josch is working on stable debian images for pocket that will be useful once the newer kernels are in stable.

for wifi, that looks like a contribution to the reform-hw-setup script that was not tested enough.

@lina are these real USB internally though (soundcard) or use some weird audio alt mode on USB-C?

@esther yeah, i'm not happy about the current situation tbh, but it does feel like a local maximum of breakages. unfortunate timing as we are onboarding so many new people...

for security reasons i'm hesitant to design a microphone into MNT Reform Next. and for a call i would rather use a clip-on or bluetooth headset mic. what's your take on this?
