I've only ever seen that happen on windows machines with weird memory violations and Linux on out of memory errors.
There is 1.3.2 available and you're welcome to test 1.4b too, if that helps.

@mntmn @digiwizkid I'm currently being paid by Inkscape to fix such crashes for 1.4, so this is the time to report them.
Though if its "out of memory" we might have more work to resolve it.
Stack trace should appear in the crash dialog since 1.3, copy and paste that into a report. No need for gdb or symbols.
The problem isn't the editor, the problem is the renderers.
Really really complex documents are a pain in the arse to render, especially when the svg isn't well constructed (I've seen R packages output millions of tiny dots to fill a graph area for example)
I estimate the cost of writing a vector editor at about twenty million dollars. Time or cash. It's why people don't want to do it, too expensive.
#inkscape Bug accelerator program starts today for me. That's where the Inkscape project pays some of the maintainers to focus time on fixing bugs for the next release. (Tav, me and Vaibhav this release) 🎉
If you do testing for Inkscape, make sure your issues are tagged (and tested against) for 1.4.x and prioritized. I'm only contracted to fix things in that list!
The attribute should be cleared on set. But this sounds like a bug for sure. Can you check a previous version to compare?
A bit out there: but you could create an account with permission, for someone you think would particularly enjoy being here. Do a bunch of set up work, following things, people etc and then hand them the keys.
Humans are inanely rebellious, I know this because the inkscape website sends a registration confirmation email which says "DO NOT RESPOND TO THIS EMAIL"
About twice a week I get an email as the webadmin from people rebelling against this instruction. Sometimes asking "Why not?", or just an empty reply, and once or twice actual abuse.
It's FASCINATING.
This is kind of what #journalists and other #celebrities kind of look like when exiting #twitter/#xitter without understanding what went wrong with the billionaire funded social media nonsense.
heh.
