     @Stellar inkscape is really slow and crashes for me all the time with the documents that i'm trying to edit (kicad schematics)

     @doctormo @digiwizkid yes, to be clear i love inkscape, it's one of my most important tools. kicad needs to render better SVG, and maybe those crashes can be caught. i need a stable version with debug symbols for meaningful stracktraces though, i think.

     The problem isn't the editor, the problem is the renderers.

     Really really complex documents are a pain in the arse to render, especially when the svg isn't well constructed (I've seen R packages output millions of tiny dots to fill a graph area for example)

     I estimate the cost of writing a vector editor at about twenty million dollars. Time or cash. It's why people don't want to do it, too expensive.

     @mntmn @digiwizkid I'm currently being paid by Inkscape to fix such crashes for 1.4, so this is the time to report them.

     Though if its "out of memory" we might have more work to resolve it.

     Stack trace should appear in the crash dialog since 1.3, copy and paste that into a report. No need for gdb or symbols.

     @doctormo @digiwizkid it's inkscape 1.3 (0e150ed6c4, 2023-07-21) and for these crashes there is no stracktrace dialog. it crashes immediately _after_ saving (window just closes), but not every time (with this huge document)

     @doctormo @digiwizkid indeed, 1.4b AppImage works a lot better, doesn't seem to crash on save

     I've only ever seen that happen on windows machines with weird memory violations and Linux on out of memory errors.

     There is 1.3.2 available and you're welcome to test 1.4b too, if that helps.

     @doctormo @digiwizkid ah, was able to crash it now. i selected all of the objects and tried to align them as a group vertically to the page center. this took a while and i started middle-click scrolling while the operation wasn't yet completed and it just closed the window, "Gdk-Message: 21:08:24.912: Lost connection to Wayland compositor."

     @doctormo @digiwizkid i think this might be the common pattern, that providing input while inkscape is not responsive makes the compositor (in this case wayfire) close the connection
