Existing Goodreads users can import their data into BookWyrm.

Hey there!

It's slightly more complicated as PeerTube is spread out on many servers, so you have to choose a server, but once you've done that it's pretty similar to uploading to YouTube.

Try reloading it and playing it then. Sometimes that helps to establish the connection.

I'm mainly trying to find out if the connection itself works after it's been established.

There's no way to automatically check which instances have been blocked by which other instances. Some of them keep their blocklists secret.

Instances generally block Twitter bots as many of the accounts have been mirrored without permission, sometimes involving personal accounts.

Yeah, it won't work with random sites, they have to be particular sites meant as web apps.

If you go to a Friendica instance and click on the ... of the default browser, it doesn't show the install option for you?

Can you try it with libranet.de? Even if you can't log in, can you see if that offers you the installation option?

When you say didn't work, what happened? Did you get anything at all?

I'm not sure if there are version constratints, I only tested it on one Friendica instance... 🤔

Web apps are similar but work a bit differently in practice.

Web apps have their own separate icon, but they also have their own notifications and they hide the browser's interface so that the app covers the entire screen.

At a technical level though the web app is basically still the website, so web apps might save memory too?

Desktop Mastodon has separate horizontal and vertical modes, it switches automatically depending on your screen size and orientation.

Both modes seem to work okay to me, but obviously it's a matter of personal taste 👍

Web apps are sophisticated websites that can be installed on your phone or tablet, and once installed they act like apps (for example they can use your phone's notifications).

The database used on BookWyrm is from @wikidata and @inventaire. They are totally separate projects, but they are both open so BookWyrm is able to use their data, and I think BookWyrm has collaborated to some extent with Inventaire?

Inventaire and BookWyrm would know this better, but I think if a book is missing you can add it to the database?
