    I still don't know WHY some of the code didn't work. But I now know how to do the thing that works.

    The "best" part is that I had to innovate something to make it work, which basically nobody in their example code is doing. Almost nobody. After I did it, I found a stackexchange where someone was doing the same thing, proving that I'm not just the weird one.

    @coolboymew @Weeble I think it is worse but I'm not 100% on that. the reason I think it's worse is simply that advertising got better at manipulation and more desperate.

    @Weeble also commercials were sometimes better but usually still bad. commercials now (I aggressively avoid them) are really amped compared to even the 80s

    So anyway, the blocking happening to SPC is full TLS disruption. It's blocking our IRC server too, which uses TLS. I opened a second port for our web server, and that got blocked. I stopped SPC and put a TCP echo server on 443, and it worked.

    I got a report from someone not even on Oracle witnessing the behavior. It may be upstream.
