The law, however, has left out a key element for #SoftwareFreedom: the bill does not oblige providers to allow downloading of applications directly from websites (sideloading). Unfortunately this represents a key source of gatekeeper control over devices.

The law brings improvements for alternative app stores which can benefit #FreeSoftware:

- Discrimination against third party app developers is banned. Smartphones providers should not unfairly threat developers

- Thirds party app stores should not be discriminated against smartphone providers. Developers should be able to access functions in OS controlled by providers

Japan’s parliament passed a law to promote fair competition for smartphones, inspired by the EU's #DMA Digital Markets Act. @fsfe contributed together with @fdroidorg as stakeholders regarding app stores.

In three steps, REUSE software addresses a fundamental problem with #FreeSoftware licensing at its source: what licence is a file licensed under, and who owns the copyright?
