A friend just pointed out:
"ADHD creates impulse control issues and, consequently, advertising takes advantage of a disability. Ergo, ad blockers are assistive devices and interfering with their operation for commercial gain constitutes a willful violation of the ADA."
Let’s do this.
I’ve heard people say that they stick with Twitter because not everyone they follow is here.
There are 15 million people. That’s like saying “I don’t know anyone in Los Angeles”. I bet you do. And if you don’t, whatever odd niche you’re into, I absolutely guarantee there are lots of people here who are talking about it today.
Ubuntu 22.04 gave me this message in apt:
“Get more security updates through Ubuntu Pro with 'esm-apps' enabled:”
That led me to this script: https://github.com/alexmyczko/autoexec.bat/blob/master/config.sys/ubuntu-deluxe, which I manually applied to one of #FRZ's cloud servers to upgrade it to Debian.
One down, one to go.
Sam Altman's eye-scanning Worldcoin banned in Spain | Reuters https://www.reuters.com/markets/currencies/spain-blocks-sam-altmans-eyeball-scanning-venture-worldcoin-ft-reports-2024-03-06/
Well done, Spain. Worldcoin always seemed like a The Onion parody of something so ridiculous that it couldn't possibly be real.
@claudiom Aww, thanks! I’m trying to put my best foot forward interview-wise.
@murph I’m seriously taping over it and calling it a day.
The tire pressure light on our Toyota started coming on every time we drive. Each time I'd manually check the tires, and they'd all be identically and fully inflated. Got it into the shop today, and turns out they have battery powered sensors inside the tire, and one's battery had died (while the other 3 are on the verge). Cost to fix: about $500 including parts and labor.
Mechanic: Is the light driving you nuts?
Me: Y'all got some duck tape?
Mechanic: *tears off a piece and hands it to me*
Currently watching “Clerks”, the best Gen X movie by a wide margin, and I’ll die on that hill.
@freetechproject @rysiek I’m a little surprised that it's not universally understood.
"Suppose that chair you're sitting in broke.”
"Yeah?”
“And you want to fix it, right?”
"Sure."
“What if someone told you it was illegal to fix it?”
"I'd laugh at them."
“There, now you get it.”
@feld I wouldn’t bring it up. Too many people think that’s a good idea, even for things that don’t involve safety.
@feld You’re preaching to the choir. But remember, lots of people like living in an HOA.
`tootctl media remove` dumped 96GB of media attachments. If you run a Mastodon server, don't forget to clean it up periodically!
@zorinlynx NIST flat-out says *not* to now.
This has come in handy when various parties wanted us to enforce that policy at work. “We can’t, as that goes against best practices and official recommendations.”
@zorinlynx This prompted a mini-rant at https://freeradical.zone/@tek/110362252319236404 😀
My #FRZ DigitalOcean Spaces bill is on track to be about $15 this month, down from S3's $120 bill in November. I'm a fan.
