A Virgin Atlantic passenger jet - with no cargo or paying passengers - crossed the Atlantic Ocean Tuesday (London-to-New York) using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).

“Engines in commercial use are not yet certified to fly on more than 50% SAF and the vast majority of flights blend in a much lower amount of SAF with traditional jet fuel.”

SAF is used cooking oil + waste animal fat + “synthetic aromatic kerosene made from waste corn.”

1. Search feature is #hashtag based, so use them liberally)

2. Per @mmasnick, the #lists feature here works well.

3. You can #verify yourself if you have access to the source code on your blog/website/etc. Details in account settings. #verification

4. Make sure your server is federated if you don't want to be an island. counter.social is an island, FWIW. (Learned that the hard way.)

I once described Twitter to my parents as public telegrams.

Mastodon is trying to create “social media” protocols like those underpinning phone calls, email and texts. Not just “read” but “respond.”

Today no corporations are pushing for interoperability due to paying for multiple email providers (eg, MCI mail, Compuserve, Prodigy) so employees could email folks outside the company.

Note: It would be 20+ years between SMTP (1981) and Gmail (2004).
