@mia there was a big deal in 2020 about the big supermarkets giving their workers Boxing Day off alongside traditional Christmas Day and closing on that day too. Like it was a big PR thing. Hooray!
Except it turns out that this was actually just closing the stores and workers would either get it unpaid or they would have to take it out of their existing annual leave allowance, instead of it being granted to them.
(for reference, places like Aldi and Lidl close on both Christmas and Boxing Days and do so in addition to existing annual leave)
@icedquinn@mia I get Christmas and Boxing Day off in addition to my general leave allowance (yay), but employers with less scruples have the ability to close for both days and not pay their workers for the time off.
It’s so strange to consider that public holidays don’t have to be paid in this country if your employer observes them.
Or your employer can observe them, but then forced you to take the time off out of your general allowance.
American Psycho wouldn’t work today because Patrick Bateman wouldn’t be able to return any physical media, as everything has switched to digital distribution and streaming.
I know we call it federation, but it’s really more like confederation. Federation is the merging of sovereignty into a greater body that has equal or greater control of the subunits; whereas confederation is where the subunits pool sovereignty for a greater cause, but retain a significant level of latitude.
Charging UK users for EU roaming is most clearly a scam when you consider that Vodafone has mobile networks in almost every European country.
So you pay roaming charges for accessing Vodafone NL via Vodafone UK, but all those charges end up going to Vodafone Group anyway??? Vodafone charges you the privilege of accessing Vodafone which is then passed onto Vodafone.
EU roaming is basically a printing press for money for the three operators (Vodafone, EE, 3 UK) that do make you cough up extortionate amounts of money for EU roaming.
I got my parents a massive cake for the anniversary surprise (yay) and they loved it. I am a good child. :02nod:
BTW the food was really nice!!! I’m soooo full…
Also the staff were friendly but crucially, they seemed… Legitimately happy? Like, I’ve worked in food service before so I get having to fake the smiles. But I noticed that the staff would occasionally chat to each other and their manager would too.
I think that probably adds to a nice and supportive atmosphere where your staff feel happy to serve customers.
I love how the term “woke” went from an in-group signifier among (I believe) Black Americans to a general term meaning “I am aware of social injustices” to a milquetoast liberal “I’m here with you [insert minority group]” to a misappropriated and misunderstood term used by right-wingers who think that caring about other people is for libcuck soyboys.
