   @icedquinn @yassie_j I think there are a lot of things that right wingers typically don't understand (some do some don't) but often they just understand the liberal broken version of it not the original concept. for ex concepts like critical theory and intersectionality are real things, many right wingers couldn't explain to you what they really mean ("it's bad"), but then again liberals can't either ("it's good") and in practice neither of those things follow the formal definition so I'm more sympathetic to the "it's bad" overgeneralization.

     @icedquinn @yassie_j if someone thinks it's performative empathy then it's not really misunderstood, they just don't believe it's sincere so it's used pejoratively.

     @Moon @yassie_j 'performative progressivism' is kind of a helpful definition of 202X wokeness.
     
     although i think conservatives are too robotic in the opposite direction to understand that either.

     @yassie_j at one point it was a black folktale about having their melanin stolen. then it was about being aware of the financial industrial complex's control of the state and other crimes. :neofox_floof_mug:

     I love how the term “woke” went from an in-group signifier among (I believe) Black Americans to a general term meaning “I am aware of social injustices” to a milquetoast liberal “I’m here with you [insert minority group]” to a misappropriated and misunderstood term used by right-wingers who think that caring about other people is for libcuck soyboys.
