It turns out that if you move to another country AND no longer have the recovery phone number tied to your account, Google isn't too keen to let you log in to your YouTube account.
People are now having "Install fests" for Windows instead of #Linux, after becoming completely overwhelmed trying to navigate the 107 setup screens (which include 14 pitches for various services and subscriptions) required for a successful Windows installation.
@Ariane Your comment about the Steam UI reminded me of something a UX designer at @thunderbird recently told me: "a good user experience is one you will forget."
So intuitive and frictionless that it melts into the background and you stop thinking about it. Instead, you simply USE it.
You're right - I don't think a single distro is quite there yet. SO close, but not quite there.
@mekuso Which is frustrating, considering Dell and Lenovo have been doing it for several years. (Granted, their marketing around those Linux devices is almost non-existent)
For years I’ve argued that desktop #Linux really needed some professional marketing to raise awareness. Never could have imagined that in 2024, Microsoft Recall and Apple Intelligence would be the high-profile ad campaigns Linux needed 🤣
I get snarky sometimes, but it does grind my gears a bit when folks say "desktop Linux isn't for professional work" when I've been predominantly using desktop Linux for all of my professional work for more than a decade.
Like, your assumption isn't everyone's reality, and if you reply at me suggesting otherwise, I'm likely to call you out or ignore you.
@ProfessorCode All it really needs is 5% — at least for major software publishers to pay attention. Perhaps it’s wishful thinking, but that’s exactly when developers started paying attention to Macs.
