@arstechnica My suspicion is that a lot will indeed fall under "parody" exceptions to copyright laws, but they really really pushed the limits of what they could get away with. I'd assume as much time and money as they've invested into this they investigated thoroughly first, but... at the same time the whole thing just feels so much like they simply don't care or something. I really don't know. It's going to be very interesting to see how this turns out.

Third party apps isn't just about being able to *BUY* stuff elsewhere (though even if it were, it might potentially still be worth it just to help decouple things more.) It's about having more options and more availalability all around. For example, look at the long and incredibly hard battle it took for the incredibly respected ScummVM to ever get into the Apple app store. Meanwhile I could sideload it 15 year ago.

Very unclear what it means to anyone new to Linux and, uh... maybe some less new. Super obscure. Apparently it came from slang "the big wheel," which isn't even something I've heard anyone say as far as I can remember.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 26-Jan-2024 04:25:45 JST Nazo @nixCraft I'm still wondering why ML still uses Python. Don't get me wrong, this isn't really anything against Python as a whole, just it's not meant to be super efficient for a task that needs to be optimized as much as possible like this. It reminds me of how the only worthwhile version of Minecraft today is still the Java version because by the time anyone got around to making an efficient version it was owned by an obsessive company who locked it down.

I'm wondering if those parents gave that baby the honey that seems to have been the culprit. Somehow it wouldn't even surprise me.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Thursday, 25-Jan-2024 03:41:38 JST Nazo @arstechnica I love how it's "censorship" when anyone says things like social media (which we know affects the way countless people actually think) should have at least some basic regulations like not being allowed to just let lies spread uncontrolled, but when a black person stands on one knee, suddenly the government needs to step in and force the companies to start regulating and firing people.
Kinda feels like there may be some kind of bias or something going on here.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 24-Jan-2024 14:56:13 JST Nazo @itsfoss The problem is that Pulse and Wine and the various dependencies around them can be a bit of a pain to deal with. The Snap version is super handy because it makes it possible to sandbox and easily fulfil the requirements without creating conflicts with other things.
Valve needs to either find a better way of dealing with this or they need to accept that the Snap module is useful.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 24-Jan-2024 04:29:28 JST Nazo @itsfoss Hmm. Would be nice to see *WHY* it's supposed to be faster and/or some sort of comparison with Midori.
I didn't realize Midori was built on Gecko though. Given how much more development it seems to have to differentiate it, Midori kind of looks like a better lighter alternative to Firefox? Unless I'm missing something of course.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 07:58:09 JST Nazo @nixCraft I feel this pain all too much. And even if you break it into chunks it doesn't change that you have that much to do. It may *feel* less overwhelming, but it still ultimately spells out that you basically don't get to have a life of your own sometimes. I think secretly the reason we break down and netflix or game or whatever is, deeper down inside, just that inner self wanting to actually do things that are enjoyable with our lives instead of dedicating them solely to tasks and work.

Nazo (nazokiyoubinbou@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Jan-2024 05:40:34 JST Nazo @arstechnica Neat as a concept, but of course completely pointless since GBA cartridges can be directly (and at digital accuracy) be dumped via other means such as NDS homebrew and they pretty much had to hack in to such an extent they probably could have dumped it directly even just to crash the game anyway.
It would be more interesting if it could be done on other things and could bypass modern encryption methods or somesuch thing. Sadly, as it is, it's just neat but pointless.

That or they're so full of it they can't even lie well.
