@diurnalfreak666 no I get that. They lost a couple of days worth of sub's but that is a large departure from the consistent growth they've seen for the past year. The troons are up in arms about it now trying to convince everyone to shutter them.
Recent history has shown that "getting the ball rolling" is serious encouragement for them for the purposes of cancelation. I'm trying to do something small to counteract that. Their user base is small enough that just telling friends about it can make a difference.
-
@wan @ceo_of_monoeye_dating if you funnel crypto through monero it becomes untraceable.
-
@wan @ceo_of_monoeye_dating in general you should probably have a reserve pool of some normie coins that were funneled through monero when the exchange rate is low. I don't think most businesses will accept monero likely due to legal liabilities. Dealing with that probably puts you at a high risk for auditing since preventing money laundering is just about the only damn thing the American government takes seriously
-
@goatmeal @Pawlicker @condret @coolboymew probably. As fun as it would be I REALLY don't want to hear them say "get fucked troon" either. That gets actual government heat on you at this point. I do not want political meddling of the left OR right mixed into a tool I'm using for work.
-
@coolboymew @Pawlicker @condret I'm trying to think back really hard to see if there has EVER been a response from a company that has satisfied the people trying to kick down your door and shit on your couch. I don't think I've ever seen one. Even the most groveling apology to please the retards is just blood in the water.
Assuring your remaining base that you're dependable and not subject to slight breezes is really the only thing you can do.
-
@Pawlicker @condret yeah what exactly is the proper response for that "get fucked troon"? He just stated they were focused on product quality and using every index they could and brave is a good addition.
I HOPE he knows that if he backs down on this it will be blood in the water and they'll start trying to dismantle everything else. I'm sure they'll go after their standing with stripe at some point too.
-
@Moon @Awoo @Pawlicker @condret @coolboymew is that the standard "overqualified" reason?
-
@coolboymew @Awoo @Pawlicker @Moon @condret they're really discriminating against candidates who don't want to work at Walmart for the rest of their life? How do they have any employees?
-
@Pawlicker @Awoo @Moon @condret my last boss, who was a former big tech manager, had a lot to say about places like google and Microsoft. There's a microscopically small group of people who are working on the heavy hitters that make all their money and everyone else is effectively a dead weight codemonkey whose work phases between states of mattering a little and not mattering at all.
That kind of environment is what allows 80% of their work force to be dead weight diversity hires and they still come out fine. Small businesses cannot afford to do that.
-
@coolboymew @Pawlicker @Moon @condret you notice that these people are never founding these companies. They come in afterwards and shit it up during the decline.
-
@Zergling_man @ceo_of_monoeye_dating @rlier23 @gnarley_boot @coolboymew maps are tricky because they can have dire real life consequences if they are wrong.
That's the one and only thing I can see myself using from google for an extended time going forward. I have a gmail account but it's very much a "I need to use this because pm.me looks scary to my 60 year old tax guy" situation. I don't use it for personal stuff anymore.
-
@Arkana @rlier23 the base plan is pretty much that. You get a fixed number of searches and you can pay for more beyond that. I use it a shitton every day and I want access to their beta features so I'm actually an ultimate subscriber. That option is pretty expensive but the time and frustration it saves me is worth it 10 times over.

@Tsuki @thegreatape ironically I have been depending on fandom heavily recently for Long Dark info. Fandom as a site is cancer but is the Autism Nexus of Useless Information and it's hard to beat on that front.
-
@Tsuki @thegreatape fandom is fairly tolerable using brave as a browser. It seems like they did a lot of work specifically on that site. I have tried recently viewing it with chromium and good lord.
-
@mischievoustomato @Tsuki @Hoss google WAS a genuinely good search engine long ago. That's how they became the default. They have since become an advertiser platform with search-like elements.
-
@rlier23 you just go to kagi.com and sign up for a free trial.
It's a paid search engine but it's the first one ever that has blown google out of the fucking water. It saves me 1-2 hours per day of research. No advertising or sponsored links that are plastered everywhere else.
-
@thegreatape @Tsuki I have down ranked a few websites. Wikipedia being one of them and all Pinterest domains. It works for both text and image search as well as seeming to affect AI answers correctly (it never cites Wikipedia for me)
-
@Hoss @Tsuki yeah honestly I've become extremely redpilled on what "free service" really means.
"free as in google" is the true meaning of "it's free if you don't value your time"
-
@Hoss I genuinely hope it improves your quality of life as it has mine. People need to be woken up to how intolerably awful search has become.
-
@vic specifically for error messages you should try quick answer and fastgpt. Quick answer has been stunningly accurate for me and is good about citing its sources.
