@beardalaxy Your high school/teenage years are kind of the worse time to work on personal projects, IMO because you don't realize how little you know about time management and the dedication it takes to work on them. I was making games back in high school too, but by my current standards, they look unfinished and broken. I even named them after their genres because they were all just practice games for something even bigger, which never happened.
My school didn't give that much homework (they were actually against that), but both of my parents were education advocates and wanted us to participate in extra-circular activities which while I enjoyed, drained me mentally.
@beardalaxy The faux-3D dungeons are just like those faux-3D games were you just see a static, first-person image of your field of view, depending on what kind of tile you are on. The only difference is that they added an animation when moving from tile to tile instead of just showing the next image. Later games dropped it, which was for the better IMO as this method was limited to maze-like dungeons.
I remember someone trying to make a Phantasy Star V in RPG Maker but I don't think the person went anywhere with that. In fact, I don't think I've ever seen a fanmade Phantasy Star V that was ever finished. The series (and I'm talking about the original series) doesn't have the same devotion as something like Earthbound where a group of people would literally spend a decade and a half making a fan-sequel that later became a spiritual successor.
I have something planned that is similar to the original Phantasy Star games, but it's not a spiritual successor because it's a Zelda clone. Also, the cast will all be aliens instead of future humans or humans from another planet. It will be Phantasy Star inspired only by the science fantasy setting.
@djsumdog@PurpCat As a gamedev you only need to include LAN multiplayer as anyone can play LAN games online through VPN/tunneling software, thus making the game support both.
@PurpCat@greentext@marlin@SuperSnekFriend I remember non-Windows keyboards having the flower-shaped symbol as the command key. Both Classic Mac keyboards and those AlphaSmart e-writers had that. However, the System76 laptop that I'm using right now has this weird symbol where it's just a rectangle surrounded by two bars.
@icedquinn@Alex It's supposed to distribute heat evenly and store enough heat while preheating. Part of the reason why most homemade pizzas suck is that most ovens aren't hot enough to cook them.
@Alex I've been looking at cooking websites and they said that they are pretty much required to make restaurant-quality pizzas without having a giant pizza oven in your backyard. They don't mention any particular brands so I doubt that they are shilling.
Does anyone have any experience with a pizza stone (take note that I said "stone", not "stove")? Apparently, they allow you to make restaurant-quality pizzas using an ordinary stove or grill.
@menherahair Previously, I had one that ran a GNU+Linux distro with an emulation front-end slapped on top of it. The hardware was more than capable of running 5th gen stuff, but for whatever reason, the software made it next to impossible to run anything 3D, except for the Dreamcast. (PS1 ran fine, but memory cards didn't work for whatever reason) I checked everywhere online and everyone was having the same problems. I don't have these problems with the Android ones. Maybe, emulators are better supported on Android.
@everyone@PurpCat I really hate how Internet cultures now have to fall into one of these two extremes. I hate the pronoun shit, but as someone who just wants to make games, I don't want to force people into some initiation by saying "TND" if they want to join my forums or whatever community I might make around them. I fucking hate this binary mentality we have now.
@menherahair My current handheld is one of these. It looks like the ones on the left, but they are from a different company. I haven't tried PS1 emulation on it, but it runs N64 games quite well (even though I have to use a separate app to do it instead of the pre-installed front-end). Best part is that they offer a custom Android-fork without the Google spyware.
I'm using a TUI client to browse this network again. I find it less distracting and it allows me to look at quality posts in the endless sea of anime lewds.
