are you going to address any of my points? the discoverability aspect of having a discord community? the fact that many people wanting help won't know or care what matrix or irc is?

I asked the dev a lot to make a matrix channel and he did, before there was only the discord server, doesn't seem like someone wanting to promote proprietary software would do that

irc (assuming you're talking about it) suffers the same things as matrix but more - no marketing behind it, not user friendly at all

I too wish for decentralized free platforms to be the norm but that is not the world we live in

the fact still is that there's more people asking for help on discord than irc; I do hope that changes but the chances of it happening are low

I default to pointing people to discord, if I pointed people to matrix, most wouldn't join - how could I have known you wouldn't want to join the discord?

I'd say there's bigger problems in foss than pointing people to a discord server, ones your energy could be used better for

@tyil @hfaust @fbievan haven't heard of that workflow, but I'm sure if it isn't available in hyprland it can be done with a script / plugin

there's plenty people in hyprland's discord server who'd be up for the task or give you some tips on how to do it

well my experience is different, hyprland is way more powerful than the x11 window managers I've tried, you can do pretty much anything with hyprctl and with its plugin system

I don't claim to know it all, nor think I've had that attitude, I was just suggesting hyprland which surely can mimick your workflow if you'd put the time to write plugins / scripts (not saying you should)

I half agree with you on discord, as I don't like it much either but the counter argument is that there's more people who already have a discord account than the ones who'd have an account on the alternative platforms - more people will join the discord server, get help with hyprland and likely stay there, while if there was only a matrix server, people would need to create a new account, most are too lazy to do so and wouldn't fix their problems, then likely quit

that's the thing though, the average internet user wants the slick and shiny UI

by user friendliness I moreso mean making a more permanent account and oh boy I've tried going through it multiple times, still don't really get it

@tyil @hfaust there's plenty great wayland compositors and not sure what you're talking about with the screenshots

and I'm not sure what you're talking about with the screenshots, as I've never had any problems with those and can't recall anyone else having that problem

maybe you tried using an X11-only tool on wayland?

agree, if there's nothing that has your exact workflow it doesn't seem worth it to switch, although it doesn't mean there's no "good" wayland compositor - there isn't a good one for you, but the ones that are here are plenty for many people and they are pretty stable

but again, I too would rather if they at least promote the matrix server, maybe bridge it to the discord one so people could move there
