@lelouchebag 24, right on the edge between millennial and zoomer I think. The first console I ever remember seeing ads for was the GBA and the first console launch I ever followed with any hot anticipation was the Xbox 360 (in retrospect, the beginning of the end)
@nemesis@Arcana@pry Or even (for that matter) before 1900. Henry George was certainly a contemporary of Marx, and he wrote a (IMHO) far more valid and prescient critique of capitalism as it currently exists than Marx ever did.
@xianc78@meso More than a few, like I said elsewhere in the thread, Macintosh as a platform had many, *many* healthy ISVs before the Intel transition killed a plurality of them and the iOS goldrush led the rest astray.
@meso it's such a sadness, they're unironically some of the best computers I ever used and if I could keep using one in the present I probably would, classic mac os and all
@suprem_dolbojob@meso true but the tradeoff is you can just do whatever with it, the full range of capabilities mcl has simply isn't possible on a system with full memory protection
@lain Like if we're talking about pure technology Apple already had that many times over acquisition or not, but even if Jean-Louis Gassee was certainly a decisive figurehead in his own right, I don't think anyone less than 90s-era Jobs could have decisively put an end to the infighting and politicking within Apple and forced them to actually ship real products. Palm ended up having similar issues after the Be acquisition with their own advanced next-gen OS (Garnet) going nowhere while they had to limp along and be a caretaker for their increasingly frail original platform, before they saw the writing on the wall, abandoned everything, and just made something new based on Linux instead.
@higanbana@marine@rees@animeirl you literally thought you were a conservative bc you didn't support 24/7 gooning, I think your sense of "vanilla" is quite skewed
@gh0st@marine@higanbana@animeirl honestly I would take feet pics but I don't think anyone here would actually want them at this point, it ain't 2019 anymore
