Jonathan (jmcrookston@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 01-Nov-2024 15:43:08 JST Jonathan The world’s five richest men have more than doubled their fortunes from $405 billion to $869 billion since 2020 —at a rate of $14 million per hour— while nearly five billion people have been made poorer, reveals a new Oxfam report on inequality and global corporate power. If current trends continue, the world will have its first trillionaire within a decade but poverty won’t be eradicated for another 229 years.

Jonathan (jmcrookston@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 18-Jun-2024 22:31:22 JST Jonathan Wet bulb temperature
"A wet-bulb temperature above 90 degrees Fahrenheit or 32 degrees Celsius is the limit for humans to perform outdoor activities. Humans cannot survive for more than a few hours beyond 90 degrees Fahrenheit wet-bulb temperatures, even with unlimited water and shade. And yet, climate change has already caused some areas of the earth, in the Persian Gulf and Pakistan, to cross above 95 wet-bulb degrees."

Jonathan (jmcrookston@mastodon.social)'s status on Tuesday, 11-Jun-2024 00:11:32 JST Jonathan Here are the basic facts: It took Virgin Galactic two decades to build a single space-worthy spacecraft and make a dozen flights above an altitude of 50 miles (80.5 km). During that time, the company consistently missed its targets for vehicle development and flight cadence. With little revenue to speak of, Virgin Galactic loses hundreds of millions of dollars a year (financial statements can be found here).

We literally just heard what happens when militaries do this with the Israeli whistleblowers who said they were just clicking buttons and authorizing the bombings, no meaningful oversight was happening .

“They didn’t give us any subsidies, instead one day Huawei people came into our office with boxes of phones to sell, all 20 percent off,” he said. “Our whole building was fighting to get the phones.”

Jonathan (jmcrookston@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 30-Dec-2023 20:43:38 JST Jonathan I don't think it would work. The organization is not a charity so it can't take the money revenue free. If it donated it it would just get the tax off the same dollar. No gain. But I'm open to be wrong here.
