@nathans I've often wondered if this is true. You would think the IRS would have rules around these types of charitable donations. But then again, it wouldn't surprise me if this loophole exists. Any tax peeps out there that can clarify?

The company asks customers to donate; suppose they give $500,000. Then the company only has to donate $500,000 of its own money, but can advertise that it donated the full million.

The organization is not a charity so it can't take the money revenue free. If it donated it it would just get the tax off the same dollar. No gain. But I'm open to be wrong here.

i haven't found any sources for other places, but i think if it were true anywhere, we would have heard about it…
