@piggo @lain also, it may seem stupid to test a rocket that you expect to fail, just to see what you need to fix next. Especially when we (NASA, Boeing, etc) have ways to develop rockets that don't blow up - they may get cancelled launches, but when they do launch, it works on the first try.

I thought that about Falcon 9 initially - that it's silly and just Musk showing off. But look up the launch stats of Falcon 9 now.

Well, Starship is contracted as NASA's moon lander for Artemis III, and also a way to get a lot of the necessary fuel into orbit.

Maybe they have a plan B, but if Starship ends up working to the spec, it will be the cheapest (per kilogram of payload) way to get a lot of stuff into orbit.

Also, during these tests, blowing up is Starship's equivalent of abort(3). Anything goes slightly wrong -> starship blows up so that it doesn't fall as a large chunk in an unexpected place.

How good has Panfrost been so far compared to the proprietary driver? Was ARM doing as much effort as AMD does for its GPU drivers, or were they doing bare minimum?

Choosing a time series database for soft-realtime data is frustrating...

Prometheus has an excellent query language, but it's exclusively pull-based, which greatly limits the temporal resolution and increases latency.

InfluxDB is push-based which means you can have a metric change as many times as you want, at arbitrary timestamps, and you can send those metrics at any time and they'll be immediately received.
But Influx's query language is dogshit.

If the text was already there, why would you blur it with CSS and then wait for all the JS to load before unblurring it?

It's almost like they're intentionally trying to make the site appear to load slower....

In the end, any rackmount chassis is better than no rackmount chassis, and not everything has to have all those convenience features.

Proper rails, like Dell's ReadyRails, can hold the server up while it's fully slid out of the rack. If you have enough slack in the cables to not have to unplug the server when sliding it out, this can work.

But if the rails drop the server into our hands after you slide it out, that's a pain.

Of course if the Reform doesn't weight much, has only 2 cables, and you don't have 10 of them in one rack, it won't be as much of a problem.
