@piggo @lain also, it may seem stupid to test a rocket that you expect to fail, just to see what you need to fix next. Especially when we (NASA, Boeing, etc) have ways to develop rockets that don't blow up - they may get cancelled launches, but when they do launch, it works on the first try.
I thought that about Falcon 9 initially - that it's silly and just Musk showing off. But look up the launch stats of Falcon 9 now.
