@aral yes, same for me. I do miss those about the Netherlands, but I do prefer the welcoming culture of Ireland (at least until recently)

Not sure if you experienced it too, but being an immigrant in the Netherlands, even a highly qualified one, it's tough

I normally put those utilities under $HOME/bin and I have a $HOME/local for more complex tools (needing config and so on) basically the same as "/usr/local" but only for this user

Why does surveillance capitalism have to taint all the fun things?

I'm hoping the new #RaspberryPi5 will run smoothly all the MAME games that previous models struggled with, maybe even 3D games such as Tekken.

Even simpler games like Puzzle Bobble 4 don't run smooth on the current hardware out of the box.

I have to get one to give it a try.

@aral if it makes you feel better, they almost rejected my pre-approved mortgage because I resigned to get a new job that was paying 20% more.

And if you are a freelancer is another nightmare. I can imagine the same logic (or lack of thereof) applies to non-profit

So, not only are we the same age, we also started programming about the same time (I might have started one or two years later)

I was merely talking about giving freedom to *anyone* to do *whatever* with the code.

Trillion dollar corporations will always find a way to exploit the system, maybe others would benefit for these type of licenses as well.

Ultimately it's a question of values.

@filipesm @aral the ultimate freedom is to allow people to do what they want with your code, even if that means that they close it.
Basically, what Apple did with Unix.

@aral it definitely depends on what your values are. I think MIT / Apache licensing is the ultimate freedom

@filipesm @aral it's a matter of personal values. I used to prefer GPL, now I lean towards MIT
