Being back in the Netherlands and seeing Groningen, it makes me realise one of the reasons why I miss this place so much: the wealth of public spaces. The gorgeous forum with its library, care and cultivation of design/culture, the town squares, the cycling/rail infrastructure… Comparatively, with our roads jammed full of cars, towns decimated by golf courses/private land, and our heads firmly up Silicon Valley’s butt, we’re living in the dark ages in Ireland (and in the anglosphere in general.)
Every time I am made aware of the differences between options for rail travel in Europe and in the US, I want to start sobbing. Even that tiny video clip looks so... _civilized_. (Amtrak cars do have trash slots, but only at the ends.)
BTW, I am not judging. But I would seek stimulation and sustenance by sucking on my own sweat before I'd give those jerks my money. But not judging. Just saying. Nope. Not judging at all.
