Welcome, @mary, to @collabora! She joined us this week and she'll be working with me on NVK/NAK for a while. She already helped out quite a bit with pre-Turing enabling with her MME R/E and builder work and I'm looking forward to having her help. 🥰 :vulkan:

NVK just landed in Mesa! 🥳

This been a long time coming... We've been developing NVK in a branch for over a year now but a few minutes ago we finally landed the new driver int he main Mesa repo. We're not conformant yet but being upstream is still a huge milestone. 😁

@LunaFoxgirlVT Yeah, IDK. I'm not intending to be critical. I just find I have exactly the same problem on Windows because I speak Linux, not Widows. I can't find anything because I just don't know what to even Google for.

If I ask a friend who knows Windows and roughly describe what I'm trying to do, they can usually throw me a term and I can go learn about it, figure out that it's not what I want, and come back. After a few rounds, we usually get somewhere.

@LunaFoxgirlVT Yeah, that's kinda true but inevitably what I find are hundreds of pages in which they ask my question but it isn't answered or where they're doing something just different enough from what I need that their entire explainer is useless for me.

It's like trying to find advice on using OpenGL. Yes, there's lots of it but it's all crap and none of it is actually a good idea in modern hardware/drivers.

I've gotten to the point where I prefer less wrong information. 🙃

@LunaFoxgirlVT To be fair to Linux, I feel EXACTLY the same way whenever I need to do anything on Windows. It feels like trying to find my way across Peris with nothing but a paper tourist map written in German when I don't know a word of either German or French. I'm sure it makes perfect sense to SOMEONE but the someone is not me...

I'm one of the lucky ones. I got a job pretty quickly working on Mesa full-time and now I'm in an awesome place and I really love my job. Even with that initial luck, though, there was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears along the way.
