Protip: don’t go in to open source for the money, it really doesn’t pay well unless you’re really lucky.
I make enough on Inochi2D to survive and sometimes put money back in to vtubing and Inochi2D itself. But just barely.
You have to really be passionate about OSS, tbh.

If I wasn’t passionate about Inochi2D and creative software in general, as well as OSS. I’d probably have stopped development a long time ago. But the project means a lot to me and so does my users so I’m willing to continue despite the sacrifices I have to make in my finances.

So yeah, if you want to do OSS full time you really need a whole lot of passion, so before you try to go down the route that I am do please either have a stable job on the side or thoroughly consider if you’re willing to sacrifice comfort and sometimes your health for it.

@gfxstrand in my case I work below the poverty line, sometimes sacrificing my health for Inochi2D. It’s definitely not for the feint of heart.

I'm one of the lucky ones. I got a job pretty quickly working on Mesa full-time and now I'm in an awesome place and I really love my job. Even with that initial luck, though, there was a lot of blood, sweat, and tears along the way.
