Is social media moving to a subscription model?If this is the case, it's only positive. Corporate social media turning to charging users for utilization is a net-good considering it means:

(1) It's not worth it for many users, who would rather abandon the network vs. pay for access.

(2) Social media companies' traditional means of profit-generation (data harvesting, selling user information) is, for various reasons, drying up.

In either case, it's good for users and alternative networks like ActivityPub and Nostr, and bad for corporate social media.

@kaia@brotka.st Megapixels are not even that important in terms of photography. A lot of these "megapixel wars" between manufacturers is marketing, nothing more.oh, our device has THIS MANY xyz!Sensor size, arguably, plays a much bigger role in photography vs. megapixels. I would be a lot more excited to see a dramatic increase in phone sensor sizes vs. megapixel count. Would be interesting to see a small crop sensor standard like MFT show up on a smartphone.

I understand the #fediblock tag has welcomed further harassment and blocks. I am informed that it is not acceptable to complain about fediblock, and that this will result in further punitive sanctioning. Whatever. I think it's crazy!

Primarily, I want to just say: I sincerely apologize for any trouble that might be caused by my instance. I cannot identify any troublesome or bad behavior from here. I cannot locate any hatred or bigotry from here. I don't tolerate hate speech or harassment and we do not harbor bad or illegal content such as CSEM or Nazis. These things go clearly against my terms of service and I would never accept such things to exist or ferment from my instance. We do have blocked instances which participate in these activities---they are clearly listed also within our terms of services page. I don't want us to associate with these things! But, I also don't want to block thousands of instances that are not bad just because other instances dislike them or don't accept their ideas. I also don't want to block instances simply because a few users therein maybe have bad thoughts or disagreeable ideas.

I never desired to cause trouble for the fediverse or to be perceived as supporting terrible things! I really just want to have fun and be friendly! I hope my instance can slowly be curated like a flower garden and become a comfortable place.

Mostly I am frustrated and upset with the slander and libel against my instance, which I take personally. I don't know why people I have never met or spoken to would go out and make horrible claims about me and my instance. This is why I complained about mastodon.art and used the fediblock tag. And, if that is not okay, I apologize; Maybe you can understand or forgive it. I already made my complaint here and there, and I feel strongly about my feelings. I don't want to retract my expressions.

I really hope we can all just be friendly and cordial with one another and enjoy this federated universe together. I believe that's what this place should all be about: not a place to fight each-other and hate each-other!

I don't really have more to say. Accept my apologies, and understand that I don't want to support or spread bigotry or hatred. I don't want my instance to be regarded by others as a bad place.

mastodon.art has blocked outerkosm.us for (officially, per their website): Federates with the usual suspectsI don't know what this means, but I believe it's essentially a form of penalizing coercion tactic/justification used to leverage other instances into joining the sanctioning of whatever entities they believe deserve sanctioning. Worse is that mastodon.art did not only block my instance---mastodon.art publicly slandered my instance as harboring child sexual exploitation material (CSEM), Naziism, hate speech. ---And, encouraged other instances to join them in #fediblock! mastodon.art's claims are a complete fabrication. At the time of their decision to maliciously slander/fediblock outerkosm.us, the instance itself wasn't 36 hours old! Not only do I not tolerate any such content or behavior, but I know for a fact that no such material exists, nor has ever existed, on my instance.

I never once received any reports, complaints, or communications from mastodon.art administration, nor any other administrators or users of remote instances, regarding any controversial, objectionable, or offensive content from my instance or the users therein. In fact, at the time of writing this, I've not received any reports or complaints from anyone whatsoever about anything!

I replied to mastodon.art's post asking for clarification and expressed how upset I was that they would do something so arbitrarily cruel to a brand new, small instance such as my own: https://outerkosm.us/notes/9asjjhl7me

I messaged the administrator of mastodon.art and furthermore emailed their administrative account again asking for clarification and expressing my discontent. I never got a response.

Blocking an instance is fine, it's part of the administrative process of the fediverse; It's a fact of life. But, to publicly lie and cruelly slander an instance is another matter completely. ---Especially when doing so to abuse the Mastodon #fediblock weapon. For an instance like mastodon.art, with nearly 8,000 users, to do this... it's the fediverse equivalent of dropping a nuclear weapon on a tiny country. And, for no reason, at that! I do not understand why they would do this. My instance did nothing to them!

I can't interpret the actions of mastodon.art here as anything short of completely random cruelty: purely motivated by a desire for sabotage. A brand new instance joins the fediverse and a giant Mastodon instance immediately broadcasts fraudulent claims to over 8,000 people---to the entire fediverse---that this new instance is harboring or disseminating CSEM, Naziism, etc.. And specifically tells users "not to interact". Doesn't elaborate further. Doesn't respond to questions. Doesn't explain anything.

I just don't understand.

I'd be lying if I claimed I wasn't upset, or that this didn't bother me.

@Freyja@eldritch.cafe What do you mean, "on purpose"? We don't federate with any instances on purpose (except maybe stereophonic.space, I always go out of my way to federate with them. I + users follow specific users across various instances. The only instances not federated with on purpose are those instances I specifically blocked---on purpose typed the instance names out onto a list---(which can be found in our ToS page). Point being, I never typed out on purpose instances to follow.

My instance shouldn't be an entry point, only content that myself or other users post or share ought federate out, and I've yet to see any harmful or negative content therein (I scoured, looking for anything that could have triggered getting blocked).If you don't want to defed, fine, but don't cry when you're defed yourself by not acting.You must make many friends by putting guns to others' heads!

I don't see how this tiny instance is in a better privileged position than any larger instance. And I am not at war with anyone, I don't know if "neutral" is even a correct term. I'm not solely "neutral", I'm not even involved whatsoever with any fights to have with others?

@Freyja@eldritch.cafe I'm Chinese. We don't minorities like you might in the West, but I would not tolerate them being hurt. In my ToS it's strictly forbidden to discriminate or attack people or cause fights with people. I never once said that "hate speech is fine", nor do I think that, nor do I appreciate you conjuring up thoughts for me like that.

I know we are not friends at all. I don't even know you! But you come here to criticize me and support sabotage on my instance? Are you American? Is this what Americans do? Like you do to the whole world?
