@jeremiah@noagendasocial.com I'm pretty sure writing Louis to remove one of his videos is the fastest way to get him to make a video that's 100x worse than whatever you're trying to get taken down. I have a lot of respect for that.
@parker@pl.psion.co I could be wrong, but as I understand is PureOS is a very convenient option for trying to get as close as possible to a full Free Software System. I don't know the state of the hardware, but I'm willing to believe their effort is sincere. In light of that, I can see how it would be tempting to justify the mission over a couple of customers.
Giving into that temptation is a big deal though, fruit from a rotten tree and all that. It is disappointing (and embarrassing) that they couldn't deliver on their promises. I know of at least one person first-hand who's had issues. @jeremiah@noagendasocial.com
This is why terminal will always be better than GUI, it would be really hard to program a GUI that lets you go back in time and make minor changes to a complicated sequence.
@xianc78@gameliberty.club I had the same experience leaving Facebook. The "they're not really your friends" line is cope, If I could do it over again I would have pushed people harder to move.
@realcaseyrollins@social.teci.world To be fair, there are many who erroneously believe that bitcoin can't be manipulated. While it is possible to maintain sole custody of your own digital assets, you naturally can't prevent others from playing shell-games and other schemes.
My overall point is largely in response to much of the web3 & nostr world that acts like in 2023 Bitcoin is still in early-days and ready to revolutionize liberty online any day now. Examples like this to me are concrete proof that this couldn't be further from the truth.
Much of the "blockchain tech" companies seem identical to big tech in culture and approaches. They just use the simplest impression of being different to sucker people in. This is why all else being equal, I think the fediverse is objectively superior to nostr and other web3 attempts at the same thing.
Doubling down, I agree with you but arguably everything is on the radar these days.
I feel like the CEO of Blackrock pumping #Bitcoin is a concrete sign that it's failed to exist as a useful currency to advance liberty. Some would argue it was never intended for this, but even now there are people who will sloganeer Bitcoin fixes this in the face of censorship and financial repression.
#MoneroOrBust? More and more I start to side with those that argue that currency is the wrong battle in the first place when it comes to attempting to hold the powerful to account. (pun intended)
@alex@gleasonator.com The Threads team is hard at work on a bunch of different features requested by the community, so it’s difficult to estimate when support for ActivityPub will ship. That said, a fair bit of progress has been made on this front, so I can share with you all our current thinking about some of these things. Vaporware
Silly question: you decide to gift/sell someone a used laptop running something like kubuntu, what would be the best way to ensure you're also providing the source code for the #GPL software that's on it? I am assuming gifting someone a gnu/linux machine isn't a GPL violation, but I'm not sure exactly why...
It's weird to see the WEF become it's own thought-terminating cliche. Many people who constantly warn about rich people coordinating in their class interests will simply shut down the moment they're confronted with a real example of them doing so to enforce creepy agendas on the public.
