You can use the timeout command that Runs a specified command with a time limit. If the command doesn't complete within the given time, timeout terminates it. For example, run a command named “ping www.cyberciti.biz” with a time limit of 30 seconds:
timeout 30s ping www.cyberciti.biz
See https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-run-a-command-with-a-time-limit/ for more information. #linux #opensource

Fingers crossed I can keep the Garfield open source solutions stage broadcasting live and working well! I am also working on a surprise for attendees assisted by Micro Center, (but won't spoil too much here, you'll just have to show up to see ;) )
The fact that you don't have to load the system with bloatware and third party apps to make sure that your system is secure, nowadays #linux is also target by virus and malware but generally speaking I still feel more secure in linux sticking with official distro packages and flapacks. I started trying out immutable linux distros, #universalblue aurora being a good example, this in my opinion, is a very good way forward for linux desktop. Cheers
Sure, there are about 100 #Linux desktop distros out there. But let's be real; most are just penguin-themed rabbit holes for the chronically bored souls. Right? If you value your sanity, stick to the classic two desktops; you know which ones I'm talking about 😉.

If you could describe yourself in one #Linux command, how would you do it?
a) sudo rm -rf /* - Destructive person.
b) grep -r "answer" / - Searching for answers and information about the universe.
c) cat /dev/random - Thinking about being creative with unexpected outputs!
d) man {command} - Always try to explain things when asked.
e) ls -l /dev/null - Nothing of value contributed to society.
f) fortune | cowsay | lolcat - Add random wisdom, but mostly nonsense, to the conversation.
What your coffee says about the average #Linux user ...
Email: Why are Linux commands so cryptic?
Me: #Unix and #Linux have so many obscure commands because the developers were big fans of Dungeons & Dragons. Each command is a magic spell with a cryptic name and unpredictable effects. Next question, please?
Damn. Somebody stole my contribution to the #Linux kernel and his commit got merged. https://www.reddit.com/r/developersIndia/comments/1gpag81/somebody_stole_my_contribution_to_the_linux/
#foss #freesoftware #gnu #fsf #libre Hello! please help us promote the Guix user and contributor survey. We're gathering the views of anyone who's used #Guix or contributed to it:
Please repost for visibility to all #linux #nix and #opensource #emacs #scheme #guile fans! (did I miss any?!)
Did you know that the original Unix devs were so obsessed with efficiency that they designed the "rm" command to have no confirmation prompt? Legend believes this was to save precious milliseconds, as they thought "real Unix users" would never make mistakes. Of course, this led to many accidental deletions and the birth of the infamous "rm -rf /" command, which could wipe out an entire system with a single typo.
Question: What do you call an app that is supposed to give you root access but doesn't?
Answer: sudon’t
Slackware is a Linux distribution created by Patrick Volkerding in 1993. It is the oldest distro still in existence. However, someone was dissatisfied with Slackware and created another distro a month later, in August 1993. This was Debian, the second oldest distro, founded by Ian Murdock. Both of these distros are still maintained, and Debian is often known as the "mother distro" because it has spawned many more distributions. #Linux #OpenSource #history
You can list all currently loaded #Linux kernel modules (drivers for hardware and other stuff):
lsmod
less /proc/modules
See how to load and unload those
