@newt my cheap backup solution consists of multi-TB external drives, whatever happens to be the best price per TB at the time. I can certainly appreciate the aesthetic of optical disks. flash embedded in a chunk of metal is probably physically tougher than optical but I guess the shelf life is absolute shit in comparison

any idea what the shelf life of 3D xpoint flash was?
