I think about relationships/fidelity in terms of scaffolding. Things that lessen the chances of divorce and cheating are things like -
- Would the community judge you for doing so?
- Would you lose access to relationships you value?
- Will people notice quickly if you step out of line? (i.e. do the neighbors ask whose truck is in your driveway)
- Does the family aim to keep your marriage intact?
