   "Pedestrians" are of a similar code for the same phenomenon as the homeless:

   They're people so unlikeable and abusive that they cannot find a single person who loves them enough to uplift them from the consequences of their own mistakes.

   Those who wholeheartedly embrace the non-automotive life by choice are an enemy to me & mine, on top of that. Those devout pedestrians and cyclists have chosen to add considerable pain and hassle to their existence for no reason than religious fealty to the cause. People with clans, children, lives don't have the hours to waste venturing to the store 6x a week to live hand-to-mouth.

   This is, in short, why I do not care at all about the suffering of pedestrians. The overwhelming majority are people who hate me & mine, so the more of that worthless dross ends up smeared across a bumper, all the better.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @latein what if I embrace the non-automotive life because used cars are unbelievably expensive? quick search of my (wide) area and almost everything is 150k+ miles, 3+ owners, limited service history and... $7,500+

     @veff @latein Sorry buddy, that's a failing of your community. The proper way to get a car when you're on the lower economic rungs is to acquire beaters via family, church fellows, neighbors, kindly folks in town who want to help you out because you're a nise young guy.

     If you're all alone then you got the short straw, will have to start asking around in your network to see if anyone has something they'd be willing to let go

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Additionally, time spent biking/walking is not wasted, it's good cardio.
     On the contrary, driving is a waste of time. People in my church will put on sermons or an audio Bible in their car because they subconciously realise this. But when I jog, I am exercising. When I am on the bus or train, I can study without multitasking.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @latein I was this close to getting one from a cool boomer friend but he gave it to one of our coworkers instead. I can carpool most places and don't have to deal with anything but gas money. That'll hopefully change once I make enough over the summer to afford my own, but thats not guaranteed and basically I'm coping.

     @veff @WashedOutGundamPilot @latein I was without a car for a week once while waiting for a repair part I ordered to be delivered (Oh, BTW fuck the USPS). I was lucky I had a motorcycle and the weather that week was just barely warm enough not to freeze to death commuting to work in the morning. Still, it sucked because my fairly sporty motorcycle didn't have hard case storage for fragile goods like eggs. Fortunately I have people who could give me a ride if I needed it. But that week reminded me of the old Honda PC800 from back in the 90s.

     Honda had their automotive division design the body of that bike, and the back seat folded up to reveal a small trunk big enough to hold two grocery bags. The idea was a bike that had some of the perks of a car. Unfortunately it never sold well and was discontinued. But if you can find one close by they can be had for fairly cheap, for fairly low milage too. And motorcycles are much easier to work on than cars if you can get a decent front/back stand kit for it.

     @latein @WashedOutGundamPilot Mostly true but also partially cope. I enjoy running and fortunately live in a place where I can get most things in a 45 minute jog (without getting jumped, too!), but a 10 minute drive allows me to get more done in less time, including proper weightlifting which does more than running ever could.

     The problem is mostly one of town design, and amerimutts will defend the assbackwardness of 400ft blocks with 4 lanes + median of blacktop. We didn't choose to live this way, but you either cry about it or adapt to it. Hopefully in the next civilization cycle we have better town/city planning

     @veff @latein Nobody here is excited about suburbs, the optimum is always a plot of land w/ a homestead about 20 minutes outside of town.

     My metric for being a good, awesome place to live is if you can travel for a long way out on a horse/4wheeler without being hassled.

     Can you ride your horse to walmart? Then it's a sweet place to live. (and it won't last long, the city folk are building everywhere)
