   Okay new brushfire for us, but another wonderful collapse post:

   Continental installed a bunch of their snap rings wrong, and from what I’m hearing the poor saps who paid $1.3 million for an SR22Turbo aren’t getting any of the repair/inspection costs covered so now they’re pissed.

   Just imagine, you bought your nice fancy new top of the line personal aircraft and…..a year later it turns out that they didn’t assemble it correctly and if you managed to fly more than 200 hours then you lucked out, because it could have grenaded itself and killed you

     @deprecated_ii Not just a week or so…..they were screwing up from June 2021 to Feb 7th of this year

     I’m curious as to who got hurt here, because the SB basically says “hey if ur engine has got 200+ hrs on it ur good, don’t worry”. Wonder which poor bastards drew the short straw.

     @professionalbigot69 IIRC they’re held up by a carbon fiber spar through the wings, everything on the brand is fiberglass outside.

     They were early to go all-in on that gay ass “airframe parachute” system, and I’m pretty sure that the early ones are a money pit because you have to take the chute’s rocket motor out q. 5y, and they didn’t just put in a module. You have to cut into the roof of the fuselage, install the new one, and completely patch over the fiberglass and match the surrounding finish.

     if my memory serves, at least. been a long time.

     Also this faggy thing has killed a bunch of people from robbing them of positive aircraft control then submerging them inverted in seas and swamps, so that’s cool

     @professionalbigot69 What I hate is that if I were to go and run that ship I guarantee it could be improved super simple, you’d just have to find the right guys and pay them the right wage. It’s that easy for stuff like this. There’s a kind of autist who would LOVE to just show up and chill, assembling tamogachis all day, they probably pass them up in favor of retards

     @teknomunk Yeah people are LIVID and for good reason. Cirrus grounded its fleet of demonstrators and ferry AC last week, I didn’t think much of it because they have their own distribution and we don’t deal with them much, but I guess the unlucky ones are just being left to their own devices.

     I’m not totally in the loop, but from the sound of it Cirrus isn’t stepping up to cover the inspection under warranty (which requires removal of half the dang engine) because it’s Conti’s screwup.

     @professionalbigot69 I know, it just sucks. The good ones I see will give notice to their company that they gotta move up, and they’ll get shit on for it. I knew one kid who outgrew the job they gave him, he needed to keep his momentum up and they didn’t have anything for him, yet instead of trying to keep him around with a pay bump they jumped right to “we’ll sue you for the costs of training you!”

     you don't need many people to build 100 engines a month
     
     so what else did the guy who doesn't know how to install a snap ring screw up, because that can't have been his only job

     @professionalbigot69 I’ve talked to one guy about his deployment and when I asked why he didn’t just fly it down like any other plane he stopped for a sec and said “it’s a cirrus, that’s not what you do”

     I have to wonder if there’s some funky insurance thing that wouldn’t cover you if you do it the usual way and set her down where you like. If every emergency flow in the POH just says “check, diagnose, and secure…..then pull handle” then I could totally see some tightwad company saying they won’t cover you because you went against procedure. They wouldn’t win, but that may have set the standard of “just pull it, less headache that way”

     I hate them, I don’t like the idea of just abandoning any amount of control over my situation and being stuck along for the ride when I have an otherwise functional glider surrounding me.

     Cool! Straight down impact! The spinal column LOVES those!

     @node Kinda. People need to think before yanking it though. I wouldn’t want to be one of the seaside guys popping it - can your pax adequately undo their harnesses and open the gull wing doors while hanging upside down as cold water rushes in?

     These guys made it but it’s something that needs to be considered

     @WashedOutGundamPilot @D-Droid @professionalbigot69 Not sure how to phrase this question in a way that can't be waved away with "however much it's worth to you", but is it worth it to fix up an old plane damaged either by neglect / real damage? At what point is a plane a total loss / not worth it?
     
     I see this one plane that's only being sold for 16K, because it has wing spar damage. Is that really at the point of not being worth fixing for most people?

     @Elliptica @D-Droid @professionalbigot69 Spar damage is likely spooky to people. There’s a juju to it because you can never QUITE be sure it’s good unless you visually inspect it all the way through, and a lot of those old things weren’t really made to fly for a full century when they were designed.

     You CAN make money flipping planes. I have a buddy who used to go to little airports and look at the stuff parked there for a while. Old pipers with flat tires and faded sunshields were his fave - he’d track down the last owners, usually the widow, and say “hey uh…..do you have the title for this thing? It’s basically scrap now, but I’ll give you $10k for it”

     Then he’d spend some time in the garage and sell it for $30, 40K, if not more. Said paint finish was always key, if you do even a cheesy repaint it suddenly gets a lot more interest.
