     @weaf @Breaking911 Struck up a convo with an old ex-fighter guy yesterday and he was AMPED about the balloon issue. Calling all his old friends, even though he last flew a fighter in the 90’s, getting the gossip and gravely telling me “y’know, my friends on active duty are thinking the chinese are trying to get us burned out on this so they can make a move on taiwan”

     Boomers really, REALLY have a giant vacuum inside them, they were raised with WWIII right around the corner, and until it comes it’s always gonna hold them in its thrall

     But I like scoffing at these guys and telling them “….so?”

     So what, who cares about taiwan? That’s their problem, not mine. Shucks, guess all my GPUs go up in value and americans will have to learn how to go more than a year without throwing a phone in the garbage. Oh no, they’ll have to maintain their things instead of disposing them, what a hellish nightmare.

     @Twoinchdestroya @weaf @Breaking911 No its not real, it’s…..have you ever seen a dog do something instinctual? Seen a labrador hunting ducks, or one of those long haired things shepherding herds of sheep back through the gate with a whistle?

     There’s a strain of boomer that grew up in middle america (spiritual), who got all the good, christian, patriotic programming that comes with, who genuinely love a false veneer of what they think america is - and they were bred to fight for it the second that flare goes up.

     @Twoinchdestroya @weaf @Breaking911 But the great conflagration of the Cold War never came. The boomers are like a labrador hearing the gunshot but never seeing the splash of a falling duck, eyes anxiously scanning the skies for the final, blessed chance to live out their purpose.

     A chance to prove to their dad - who got to fetch thousands of ducks in the 40’s - that they’re a real labrador, that they can fetch too!

     That’s why they’re so charged whenever they see the merest spectre of world war 3.

     Theirs just involves Red Dawn and a functional America, ours involves somehow surviving to become lord of ashes.
